I worked at Baxter full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A dynamic company looking to go places.

    Cons

HR takes a "might makes right" philosophy with their employees. Promote technical people into executive management realms where they are incapable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check your acquired properties more closely.

I did not have a positive experience with the people of Baxter in my division. I wish I had done more due diligence.

I worked at Baxter full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The work we did was great. I worked with high level clients and sr leadership and was encouraged to do so on a regular basis. The technical skills I honed there were equally satisfying.

    Cons

I wasn't a good fit with the culture. I had hoped for a progressive culture and found it to be uber conservative.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None. It works for them

Former Employee - Customer Service Specialist in Deerfield, IL

I worked at Baxter full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits, 99% of coworkers very friendly and helpful, excellent training provided for all functions of the job.

    Cons

Call center, micromanagement, poor (petty) leadership in the center, prepare yourself for an unreal dose of nepotism, inconsistency, and Big Brother in this environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-evaluate the supervisors in customer service, make time to know your employees, make communication more direct instead of the trickle-down style it is now.

I have been working at Baxter (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are good. You are fairly stable. There are several different worksites and divisions that you can transfer to if you want to.

    Cons

So much bureaucracy. Every boss has two more bosses to answer to. There is constantly some new acronym, intranet site, standard, or system that the company is rolling out that is supposed to make things easier, but it complicates everything more. Granted, the company is changing (spinning off its Bioscience division and assimilating a former competitor, Gambro) and things could settle down soon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management is constantly shuffling around. Much of upper management is reluctant to put their name on big projects, so they drag their feet.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very stable organization, team driven, employee development is a priority and good visibility if you are a hard worker.

    Cons

Work-life balance is getting better, but still not the best. Hiring strategy includes hiring many recent graduates, which require significant time before bringing value to the organization.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

company culture and values - feels like a second family
instant access to benefits - no waiting periods (stocks, 401k, etc)
    supportive direct supervisors
solid training, program has been tweaked of late but it has new reps hitting the floor faster.

    Cons

lack of exposure to some other aspects of the company
upper management does not grasp the daily struggles that the frontline representatives go through
severe lack of communication between sectors of the supply chain
out dated technology, systems do not communicate well with each other

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be mindful of the employees that work under you, they have lives outside of the work place. Sit with them and listen to some of the daily trials representatives go through. Listen to suggestions for improvement and implement them accordingly. Work on communicating changes and the status of the business to the whole department.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Ok pay ok benefits. ... love the costumers, you feel like you can make a difference in someone's life and are there to make them as comfortable as possible

    Cons

Too much red tape , safety can be put on the back burner , can't route , will eat you up and spit you out .... If my boss would have listened to me about ssafety my life wouldn't be where it is now ... Wish he could feel a portion of the pain I feel make make them think twice about how to operate. ...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees , if you have never done the job they do take a day a try it out.... care about safety and after someone gets hurt it wouldn't hurt to atleast act like you care

I worked at Baxter as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

the training was very quick but the trainers were extremely nice, approachable, and always willing to help

    Cons

they want you to learn the information as quick as possible negatively impacting the quality of your work, very intense stressful work environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

training should be taken more into consideration as everyone learns differently and taken into consideration that quality of work should be important,
