I have been working at Baxter as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Benefits, charity of your choice they donate to, casual atmosphere. The campus here in RL are great and close to home.

    Cons

Hard to get on FT as a contractor. Your foot is in the door, but they truly hire from within first.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your contractors, and if respected and liked, find them a position within.

    Pros

Very stable organization, team driven, employee development is a priority and good visibility if you are a hard worker.

    Cons

Work-life balance is getting better, but still not the best. Hiring strategy includes hiring many recent graduates, which require significant time before bringing value to the organization.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Little overtime required because they do not care until the situation is out of hand. When that happens they want you to provide something to keep them going. If you're lucky enough it's not a bad place.

    Cons

Envious and inexperienced technical managers afraid to lose their jobs. Back-stab, nit-pick and berating starts when the opportunity comes or if you mention/apply for better offers. Big turnover, nobody stands it. No growth and training unless you are below the manager's bullying radar. HR is only to cover management tracks and get you out of there at their most convenient moment... Beware!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management only care for eloquent responses (until it get out of hand) than for results. This is a company of losers that couldn't make it anywhere else or people who want to move out from other companies and didn't have more options.

    Pros

Fortune 500 Company - looks great on your resume, no matter what position you hold.
    Great benefits.

    Cons

It's a huge corporation and it's all about making the shareholders happy, naturally. So if you want some sort of feeling of a family, you won't get it. If you're lucky to work with great people, you might get some of that cozy feeling within your own team. Otherwise, "it's not personal, it's just business."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'd consider investing in the talent development from within. Outside talent is not always the answer.
