I worked at Baxter full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Global company that offers an opportunity to work with a diverse group of individuals. Lots of opportunities to learn new skills or participate on project teams.

    Cons

Opportunities for growth or advancement were often limited by short-sighted leaders who either believed the exact experiences or career paths they had in their career were required of their subordinates. Additionally, saw a lot of "nepotism" type behavior in leaders who only advanced their "favorites" (regardless of those individual's actual capabilities).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The goal should always be to "train your replacement" so you can move up. Often, leaders were so concerned with their own advancement that they forgot to look out for those beneath them. Be an advocate for your people. Help them grow and give them opportunities to shine, it makes you a better, stronger leader.

    Pros

    Global company with dedicated employees

    Cons

Communication. Priorities. Silo mentality. Numerous processes to get a task completed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees have generally been unhappy. They need to really pay attention to the present culture and it's cultivation of negativity.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great experience with medical devices and a built-in increase of older patients to drive growth.

    Cons

Top heavy with management. Significant bureaucracy results in excessive time to make decisions. The good-ol-boy network is alive and well along with the mindset of what have you done for me lately.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Demand that all employees be treated with respect, are valued and have career progression options. Do a better job of training managers. Recognize the disparity of workloads across organizations.

I worked at Baxter (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The only thing good about this company is if you are a full time employee with one of the original Baxter facilities the pay scale and benefits.

    Cons

They are buying up any medical product company they can find and dismantling it. Once it has been dismantled lay off ensue and whatever they can outsource over seas they will. They don't seem to mind constantly filling the unemployment lines with people who have been with the companies for years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start looking at the people below management and start letting go of the overstaffed upper management you have. You might actually make a better profit.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Global company leading to experiences with other cultures and individuals. Good opportunities to develop with certain functions.

    Cons

Changing times have led to changing culture; at times challenging to keep up with the ambiguity. Extra effort required to break through siloed functions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue/increase communication of activities as they impact invidividual functions.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Company, great products, job security. Knowing that daily what you do literally makes a difference and saves a life is a great benefit in itself. Good health care benefits.

    Cons

Being promoted almost impossible. Reluctant to change with the times (technology), work life balance is a struggle. HR is not in touch with the employees or management. Usually understaffed in non manufacturing departments which creates animosity between the support groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote the employees who work hard and deliver. Work life balance shouldn't just be a motto, we need to give our salaried employees the time to be away from the job when they aren't there.
