Former Employee – worked at Bay Cove Human Services
Pros – My co-workers and mid-level managers are a pleasure to work with. They make an effort to respect independence while encouraging teamwork.
Cons – I think, like many social service non-profits, the pay could be better as well as training opportunities. There is a greater need for diversity in management, too.
Advice to Senior Management – Increase diversity in managerial roles. I think more opportunities for training would be beneficial for professional development and increase retention.

Former Employee – worked at Bay Cove Human Services full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – People who work there are pretty nice. Easy to get a job here. The company really serves an under-served population. certainly can do some good in society there. If you are a social worker, there is room for growth. They will find jobs for those they like, even when programs close. You can feel good about the work you do.
Cons – No raises, small to no bonuses, insurance premiums are through-the-roof expensive (and going up), Their pay is pretty poor all around, absolutely no room for growth for anyone who isnt a social worker, it feels like you have 15 supervisors but nobody knows what's going on.
Advice to Senior Management – It is what it is. If you cant pay people, they wont stay. Safety should be a bigger concern. You have WAY too many middle-management positions. It feels like their are people in many of these positions who job is being done by someone else.

Current Employee – been working at Bay Cove Human Services full-time for less than a year
Pros – I don't seem to have anything positive to say about this Agency as most of the times it misrepresents itself to employees who only discover its true colores after they are hired.
Cons – Their emergency policy is one that needs to be reviewed as they show not the slightest concern about the safety of their employees. Bay Cove does not shut down even when the Governor declares a state of emrgency and advises all non-essential employees to stay home. With Bay Cove you have to come in or if you decide to stay home you use your vacation time. Employees were forced to go in during Hurricane Sandy but no work was done as there were no clients and employees spent most of the time expressing their frustration and anger. Their salaries are nothing but peanuts.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat your employees with respect and care about their safety. Boost employee morale instead of completely destroying it.

Former Employee – worked at Bay Cove Human Services
Pros – Good salary and medical benefits, management was poor. Great overall experience for starting analyst, would recommend to work here.
Cons – Management was poor, long work hours and clients were hard to contact due to difficult management problems. People were hard to work with as well.
Advice to Senior Management – Please give better hours and better management,

Current Employee – been working at Bay Cove Human Services
Pros – It is an agency that strives to help others. They provide services for those suffering from mental health issues, aging, addiction and homelessness.
Cons – Each division of Bay Cove is run independently. The program where I work, Career Advancement Resources (CAR), is very poorly managed.
Advice to Senior Management – To be more realistic in what is expected from employees. Being understaffed is not an excuse to treat employees poorly.

Current Employee – been working at Bay Cove Human Services
Pros – The organization has a great mission serving people with developmental disabilities, aging, mental illness and drug and alcohol addiction. It is an open and laid-back work environment. Staff get to contribute their ideas and cultural background. Most of the company's sites are readily accessible by public transportation. The company offers great benefits for those that work 20 or more hours per week.
Cons – The organization is made up of over 100 program sites throughout Boston, so the company is very fragmented. Sometimes it can take time for a change to take place.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue fighting for more state funding and caring for your employees as much as you do about your clients/consumers.
