Pros
Concerned for employees satisfaction and happiness. Often held socials during the work day to boost satisfaction and management always was checking in saying hi.
Cons
Two locations in Tarrytown about ten minutes apart. Both locations had tight/cramped working condition.
Pros
people are very friendly; The managers are all supportive; The working time is flexible as far as you finish your job in time;
Cons
It is a small medical device company so the experience is kind of limited; The company relocates frequently, which is not good;
Advice to Senior Management
I don't think relocating frequently is a good thing, which is not good to keep the loyalty of the employees.
Pros
The company has good salary and benefits, good engineers to work with. The relocation package that is offered is excellent.
Cons
The work is good but incompetent management, that tries to find someone to blame all the time. Hence, there is culture of distrust in the company
Advice to Senior Management
Get out of your cubicles and work in the lab. Insteading of spending time in so many costly meetings try to meet one on one with employees
Pros
most people are nice
certain groups are good
interesting projects
experienced engineers
work/life balance
vacation time
lab devices
research oriented
Cons
lots of work, overwhelming
highly-regulated
document everything. most time documenting
bureaucratic
stressful at times
global outsourcing -- hard to communicate
Advice to Senior Management
Promote the people that deserve to be promoted. Beware of those who play with politics to get it to the top. Examples like this make people go to other companies.
Pros
Large, international company with lots of opportunity. There are lots of good people working here with plenty of experience and knowledge.
Cons
Large, international company with disruptions in the communication lines between mother bayer and the outposts. Bayer is a great company, but there is a lot of red tape.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your midlevel managers, they've managed to steer a successful business for 20 to 30 years in many of their situations. Also, there seems to be a glass ceiling at the group manager/director level. It would be nice if career ladders were better defined and personal career success were rewarded with advancement.
Pros
The group I worked with was professional. Most of all, everyone acted like a team by sharing the work load.
Cons
Due to integration multiple positions were eliminated, which lead to increased work loads and longer hours. As with any company, processes and approvals added to delay in task completion.
Advice to Senior Management
I enjoyed working for Bayer and believe that management did the best that they could considering the circumstances. Thanks for the experience.
Pros
1. its big name makes you kick off career one step ahead of the peers. 2. BIg company implies a structured and standard practice. It is good to learn some routine before creating your own style.
Cons
1, hierarchy, hardly can I move up to top of the ladder.
Advice to Senior Management
To be a more internationalized company, hiring people with more diversified background.
Pros
The Bayer Corp. in Northern IN, began as Miles Labs. Miles was a family owned Corp. that had been in the Elkhart, IN area for a hundred years. It was one of the highest paying places to work in the area, good bebifits, and they took good care of all thier employee's, management and hourly, if you got hired at Miles you were set for life. Bayer bought out Miles Labs and thats how many of the people working in this area became Bayer employee's.
Cons
Since the Bayer corp. has taken over, 1000's of jobs have been lost in this area. plants have been closed and torn down. People that had given most of thier life, loyal emploee's, that would go the extra mile to do the job right, no matter what it took, were told thier jobs were moving someplace else so the Corp. could make more money.
Advice to Senior Management
Times are tough, money is tight, family's are loseing thier house's left and right in America, because of health care, gas, grocery's, you have a great hourly work force, with a lot of knowledge. Tap into it, and Use it! Give them the chance to make extra money. You have many management people that have worked for other company's. Those poeple have alot of knowledge where they have seen things work and not work and the reason it didn't work. Get on board and lets do the job. The Corp, management, and hourly are all here to do one thing, MAKE MONEY. Let's do it together.
Pros
They are more like a family then a company, been with them for many years, watched alot change, went from the top of the world to layoffs. There are more people coming in lately that have a strange manangement style, almost like the kids that were the bullies in 5th grade never grew up. Luckly there are few of them and like most bullies once you stand up to them they usually leave you alone.
Cons
The worst thing I can think of is poor assessiblity for promotion, there is no career path, even the website for HR has no webpage when you click on career paths. Knowledge sharing is also important but there seems to be very little of it.
Advice to Senior Management
Communication listen to the bottom they are the ones make you look good.
