Pros
The facilities at Bayer are great. Excellent fitness facility, great cafeteria, nice lounge. Very friendly co-workers. Challenging and fast paced work environment.
Cons
Poor communication among different functional units and project teams. Sometimes difficult to know what management expects from you. Constantly changing priorities.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen more carefully to feedback received from your employees. Encourage a more collaborative environment with open communication among teams and functional units.
Pros
Central location in a vibrant, big metropolis. Great for career track to work ata compnay with a reputable, familiar brand name.
Cons
Too many in specialized positions for too long. In terms of promotions, thiscan mean those with solid performance ratings and education waiting in line behind those with 20+ years and no collegiate background.
Advice to Senior Management
Although there is much to be said about loyalty, recognize the talents and contributions of individuals based on expertise, not just years in service.
Pros
Eligible for an array of innovative rewards and recognition programs
Cons
Lack of supporting your professional development through career ladders
Advice to Senior Management
Support for paid time off programs
Pros
Good benefits
Brands are strong
Decent pay
Cons
Bad management
Limited chance to advance
Advice to Senior Management
Create opportunities for employees to advance their careers. Upper management has been in place for a long time. Log jam that doesn't allow for upper mobility.
Pros
A lot of on site benefits (gym, cafeteria, lounge, etc) for Head Office staff. Good benefits and vacation package. Involved with local community.
Cons
Work/Life balance is a catch phrase more than a philosophy. Divisions are very siloed, little communication between business groups. Little ability to effect change.
Advice to Senior Management
Middle management decisions seem to be based on personal opinion rather than solid business acumen. Ability to express ideas that diverge from what direct manager wants is very limited.
Pros
Well balanced portfolio of products
Attractive business model
Drive from Senior Management to improve bottom line results
Diversity of portfolio is a plus
Cons
Too much red tape
Strategic direction of company not clear
People management is poor
Decisions making take far too long
Advice to Senior Management
Invest more in R&D to develop novel products
Drive cultural change into the company - less paper, more decisions, faster approvals
Pros
friendly colleague, team work is there. this company is not bad in term of benefits but could be improve better,
Cons
less competitive , the leader quality is very important. the frequent change of country head in my country might lead to discomfort in the sales level
Advice to Senior Management
provides the good training, better career advancement opportunities, improve staff benefit, rewards the employees when they achieved something, need more R&D
Pros
Very good health benefits. you don't pay for medications
Cons
you have to be liked by the right person to get promoted.
Advice to Senior Management
please hire people from minority and give them the opportunity to hold senior management function, they can do it.
Pros
The work/life balance is favorable at the Seattle area site. Bayer's 401k contribution is one of the best I've seen - on par with Amgens. Bayer supports alternate transportation (free bus passes and shower/locker room for cyclist) and remote access from a home office.
Bayer seems to be weathering the economic down turn better than most -- at least so far.
Cons
The health insurance is some of the most expensive I've seen anywhere. They aknowledge it and blame it on an older than average workforce.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more resources to employees of acquired companies. They often get overlooked and feel like stepchildren.
Pros
Bayer has an understanding human resource department and upper management. There is a good amount of leeway for who have to deal with personal issues such as school, family, health etc.
Cons
Over management by lower management, there are quite a few micro managers and they are not fun to work with. Bayer need to teach their managers how to be competent managers. This problem started with the acquirement of a smaller company which led to talent exodus. people in lower positions were moved up but some of them are not fully trained to be managers or have not had enough management experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Trust your employees more.
