I have been working at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, bonus structure is strong and compensation is competitive. New facility is very nice offering great cafeteria, on site starbucks, on site medical office and on site gym.

    Cons

Medical benefits are not great, only very high deductible plans. As with any large company, you are a box in an org. chart and at risk of cost containment measures and re-orgs.

    Advice to Management

Make every effort to retain and support good talent. Reward for loyalty and length of service. Provide an environment of team building through strong people management and leadership.

    Pros

Company car and good benefits. Good work life balance. As long as your district manager is solid life is good.

    Cons

i had a very large territory so lots of overnight travel started wearing me down. Change in management created lack of previous synergistic culture.

    Advice to Management

If a large percentage of the sales force leaves. try something different.

I worked at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great culture. Provides training consistently to meet changes in day to day workload. Good working environment.

    Cons

Parking, and not a good idea if you're commuting farther because of the heavy traffic in every directions.

    Advice to Management

Keep looking for rotational opportunities for your employees.

I have been working at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

    * Work/Life balance depending on department. * Facility- big cafeteria with good options, large fitness center with full basketball court. * Friendly colleagues. * Future of company is focused on direction and core business.

    Cons

Not too many... However departments can be siloed, and the corporate structure is a bit convoluted. In finance there are too many systems in place, and access to data is limited.

    Advice to Management

Improve systems by focusing on a few that get the job done. Provide more ease to access data, for improved analysis, whether providing system access or direction to the correct departments.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is OK - but can be quite good also if you know how to negotiate. Some of the EEs were really great but they were beaten down and demoralized. The best part of working here was giving myself a Christmas present-- quitting.

    Cons

I've been consulting for a decade and Bayer in Berkeley was the worst experience I ever had. Much of the facility itself is appallingly old and crumbling -- I got stuck in one of these windowless buildings in a room with a couple working light bulbs. Generally aggressive and combative work culture with political wrangling reminiscent of high school. Lots of passing the buck. Nobody wanted to work together and some were just hanging around until retirement. Messaging from the top - dedication to safety and compliance, etc - not in line with reality at lower levels where everything was ok as long as delivered on time.

    Advice to Management

Please clean house. The managers are awful. There are some skilled workers available to you, but they're being wasted. There are also some useless hangers on that need to be pushed out, but are friendly with the awful managers.

    Pros

Solid company that is not going away or impacted significantly by changes in the market place. Large US base means benefits are reasonable. Generally there are no surprises - it's manufacturing, so the business is straightforward. Roles are pretty clear.

    Cons

Definitely a German company doing business in the US. Expect to have ex-pat Germans in key roles and for them to shuttle back and forth to Germany every few years. German jobs will come first - not a lot of Creativity in creating jobs.

    Advice to Management

Would be great to drive more process improvement, more engagement within the US workforce. The German workforce is not the only workforce you have.
