I have been working at Baylor College of Medicine full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

World-class patient care & facilities. Here I train with excellent faculty and colleagues. Tremendous opportunities for those who are interested in quality improvement, organizational changes, etc.

    Cons

Ancillary services are always understaffed because of the explosive growth of the patient population and its demands on the department in recent years (2014).

I have been working at Baylor College of Medicine

    Pros

Excellent benefits, superb physicians, wonderful to be part of the modern advances in medicine.

    Cons

Leadership at the top level is very poor.. Departmental Administrator was fabulous, recognizes the value of an employee... yet, even with excellent reviews the Chief of the department seems to have the final decision to terminate an employee when they are not even familiar with the work ethics of the individual.

I worked at Baylor College of Medicine full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    The lab perks are good.

    Cons

    1) Clinical Lab at Baylor is not for people with family, only suitable for single's with no family life, lonely people or people who just dont care for anything else other than money.
    2) No respect from supervisor specially females with kids.
    3) Supervisor wont allow you to go to work early.....which is ridiculous, as long as you are making up all yr hours, it shouldn't matter.
    4) You go to restroom, you get an email, asking abt yr whereabouts..
    5) Once you enter the lab you are not allowed to get yrself some breakfast......against the law of the supervisor.
    6) Terrible place to work under this supervisor, specially if you are sick or your kids are sick, no bloody consideration for Kids.
    7) If you take off for yr kids during sickness, you will have to provide a doctors note from the pediatrician, even for half day and that too you have to fax at a number that the supervisor lists under her email, she doesnt know where the hell that fax machine is in the whole building.............its a shame.

I would advice people who want some quality time with family not to apply for jobs at clinical lab specially at the MGL CMA lab, terrible workplace, good collegues, but mentally sick supervisor.
    Thanks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lab Directors, please try to find out how the supervisor is acting with the lab technicians.I employees should have a certain full-proof channel where they can complain abt the bad lab supervisor.

    Pros

Great benefits and some areas have flexible work arrangements.

    Cons

parking is a hassle and expensive. Employees are not heard by leadership. Very few opportunities for promotion unless someone vacates a current position. Work-Life balance is non existent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to develop focus groups to learn what is important to employees and implement those findings.

I have been working at Baylor College of Medicine full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance is very good. You are working in an exciting clinical and research medical environment. The Texas Medical Center is a happening place to work. The people surrounding you are well educated and generally very good at their jobs. There is a lot of collaboration and new technologies being introduced.

    Cons

The parking is expensive and the commute from most suburbs is long. The organization is less structured so an employees work experience is very dependent on the quality of the immediate supervisor. If your job is funded through grant money, it must be renewed every 3-5 years and positions can be put at risk based on the funding cycle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The faculty, which frequently end of becoming managers of groups needs more leadership training.
