Former Employee – worked at Baylor Health full-time for more than a year
Pros – Location, family oriented, ability to move around within the organization. Has some very good people scattered throughout the organization. Has potential to become great
Cons – Low pay, HR not helpful, recruitment not proactive, stuck in the "this is how we have always done it" mentality. Requires Director or above to get other teams to contribute, poor benefits package, lack of innovation, culture beats go-getters into submission or drives them out.
Advice to Senior Management – Make staff/mgmt accountable, stop the excuses, empower others, stop the "this is how we have always done it". Turn the tide to become PROACTIVE, Accountable, and LEAD.

Current Employee – been working at Baylor Health part-time
Pros – They really do care about health and wellness. They try to cater to the whole individual as well as being resources for the family.
Cons – They like to keep you where you are. If you were to find another job within the system, make sure you are on top of your manager to release you so that you can work at the other job.
Advice to Senior Management – Please release your employees when they want to work at other Baylor facilities. It's not that they don't want to work at your particular facility anymore, but maybe they need supplemental income and the only way they're going to get that is if they get a second job.

Current Employee – been working at Baylor Health full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Employees are treated with respect and given the oppurtunity for self development. There is a high emphasis for a pay for performance culture that weighs heavily on individual behaviors.
Cons – Change doesn't always happen as fast as one would like. Because of the size, there are pockets of people resistant to change. Companies these days need to stay leading edge in all areas.
Advice to Senior Management – Be mindful of who are being placed on leadership positions. These employees should be held to a higher level of behaviors then their previous non-leadership behaviors.

Current Employee – been working at Baylor Health
Pros – The atmostphere is very laid back, people are very nice, flexible scheduling, no call if you're a prn employee, managers actually listen
Cons – pay is below the industry average, although recently they have been increasing clinical employee pay to match the market even though they still have a ways to go

Current Employee – been working at Baylor Health part-time for less than a year
Pros – The Baylor name. Partnership with nursing programs. If your full time, the benefits are not too bad. Some managers are wonderful and very flexible with school schedules.
Cons – Part time gets sky high benefit costs and no tuition reimbursement....you know how hard it is the be a FULL time employee/student and work?? The salary for nursing support staff is horrible. I took a 10% pay cut to work for Baylor because it benefits me when applying to nursing school.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay nursing support staff better and you will retain better employees. A senior nursing staff employee once told me that I needed to vote her employee of the month just because she helped me with an admission- she "normally would not do something like that".

Former Employee – worked at Baylor Health full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Baylor pride, innovative, faith-based, resources, attempt to be transparent (at times).
Cons – lack of timely communication to support leaders, too much control, lack of partnering to accomplish goals.
Advice to Senior Management – Need to walk the talk of faith based model to minimize ego driven people. Improve communication up and down the organization. Have corp service lines obtain feedback from hospitals for performance ratings instead of rating with limited knowledge.

Former Employee – worked at Baylor Health
Pros – I was given an opportunity to move up only to a point. I was very grateful for this learning opportunity. Most people were really nice to work with.
Cons – I worked there for 16 years, and then was laid off. For the previous 9 months prior to this event, our Director had taken another position, and I took up 90% of the slack because no one else there knew my position. How did they thank me for all the long hours all those years, and especially the last 9 months? I was told I was laid off--they were "realigning" some positions. I was told HR would help me find another position there for the next 30 days, and during that time they would pay me ONLY if I signed a disclaimer basically indicating I would not sue them. To be able to get my "severance" package (which is a TOTAL joke), I signed this so I would get a total of 3 months severance pay--for 16 years of dedication and service!!!!!
Advice to Senior Management – Learn how to treat your employees.

Former Employee – worked at Baylor Health full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Benefits, PTO, dart passes, tuition reimbursement.
Cons – Poor senior management, unorganized, doesn't place patient safety first.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to you middle and front line managers along with reporting staff. Quit "sweeping" important issues under the rug to make profit and "become one of the top 5".
