I worked at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time for more than a year

    Pros

At the time for my department...free alcohol, macro-managed, good people, benefits, flexible working hours.

    Cons

Seem to have a revolving door. Since I've worked there, executive decisions have been questionable. They got laid off a lot of talented ppl. Lack of high employee morale. Company has turned into a Sales driven company, which contradicts their motto, "building brands."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire talented people who would understand your brands and consumers. Increase morale; who wants to help you increase sales if they don't feel valuable. Stop laying off people. It is not them, it is the executives making dumb decisions.

Great company to work for prior to going public as Beam in 2011. Afterwards, poor management.

I have been working at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Although benefits have been reduced in recent years, still better than a lot of companies of comparable size.

    Cons

Dramatically increased work load due to consolidation of facilities. Not many advancement opportunities for most.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management should be more engaged in what is truly happening at the site level.

Former Employee - Territory Sales Representative

I worked at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time

    Pros

Great salary, benefits, expense package, trips, and loads of fun

    Cons

You live and breath booze, mentality of the company is to have you out in the field selling drink by drink as often as possible. Career growth is somewhat limited because turnover is low. Tendency to attract lazy people/coworkers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your younger staff - sales/marketing, are generally going to have more drive than your senior staff. Why not delegate more responsibility for incremental income growth? Example: Have younger sales rep be the new product specialist too for +5k annual income.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Deerfield, IL

I worked at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

People are great, a culture of 'work-hard, play-hard'
Fantastic innovation platform, get to try new products before market and influence development
Ability to control your own career development opportunities
Recently re-designed office space, clean, bright and open
    Liquor allowance for all employees

    Cons

Work-life balance is a joke. Expect to be glued to your blackberry, even while on vacation.
Little to no training (systems, processes, industry) unless you're in Sales
Job security tenuous at best - expect yearly restructures

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The talent that leaves first from burn-out is the talent you can least afford to lose. People with options won't stay in abusive environments. Hold team leaders accountable for improving engagement instead of just reviewing reports and filing them.
