I worked at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Was given spirits as rewards for good performance - then downsized as "did not fit in"? No description of performance problems?

    Cons

No job description - somewhat turmoil.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Solve middle management impasse - define training, objectives and goals.

I worked at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time

    Pros

Great salary, benefits, expense package, trips, and loads of fun

    Cons

You live and breath booze, mentality of the company is to have you out in the field selling drink by drink as often as possible. Career growth is somewhat limited because turnover is low. Tendency to attract lazy people/coworkers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your younger staff - sales/marketing, are generally going to have more drive than your senior staff. Why not delegate more responsibility for incremental income growth? Example: Have younger sales rep be the new product specialist too for +5k annual income.

I worked at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

People are great, a culture of 'work-hard, play-hard'
Fantastic innovation platform, get to try new products before market and influence development
Ability to control your own career development opportunities
Recently re-designed office space, clean, bright and open
    Liquor allowance for all employees

    Cons

Work-life balance is a joke. Expect to be glued to your blackberry, even while on vacation.
Little to no training (systems, processes, industry) unless you're in Sales
Job security tenuous at best - expect yearly restructures

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The talent that leaves first from burn-out is the talent you can least afford to lose. People with options won't stay in abusive environments. Hold team leaders accountable for improving engagement instead of just reviewing reports and filing them.

I have been working at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great brands, great people, great perks. A very fast paced environment on the cusp of social trends.

    Cons

More work than people to get it all done. Near impossible expectations. Pushes to hire more and more women but, almost ignores the needs of pregnant and working mothers. Highly competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a great company but has some room for improvement. The methods put I. Place to increase engagement are too superficial and to not address the core issues.
Here are a few tips: Better benefits for working parents. Hire more talented people to help achieve goals, balance out the workload so employees can take a vacation once and awhile to avoid stress and burnout. Stop scheduling meetings over lunch and let your employees take a real break once and a while. Promote from within more, especially when it comes to directors. Improve the on-boarding and training process. Promote the right people into the right jobs. Upgrade from the old clunky and outdated technology to better faster more efficient systems.

I have been working at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay, work hours, brand ambassador program, nice perks working at Beam.

    Cons

Bad managers; goals inconsistent across functions; lack of accountability/ownership of issues impacting the ability to meet internal and external customers expectations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in managers to be leaders; strive towards a proactive organization, not always having to put out fires. Don't take the manager's word for it; ask the teams responsible for the work. It just may save you from making some bad decisions that will later need to be retracted.

I have been working at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

We have some great products. Hours are flexible when life happens. some fun people working there. Pay is only decent, but they do promote from within and across certain functions. Summer hours (for those who have the time to take them).

    Cons

WORK LIFE BALANCE- major imbalance for a lot of people; this company is understaffed in many departments (with no hope for filling out the staff in the near future). the "perks" of working for this liquor company really comes down to free liquor, which one can simply go to another company for higher salary and buy their own liquor (no other perks here as Beam doesn't sponsor many events or teams). The only real perk is the "cool factor" of saying you work for Jim Beam. Health benefits need a relook.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop acting like we are a small company. You are squeezing every last bit of energy out of your employees which will backfire in lower productivity and higher turnover rate.

Interesting industry, but lots of politics to deal with

I have been working at Beam Global Spirits & Wine full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good brands; interesting categories; some great people work there; global business; company is expanding and growing in importance in industry

    Cons

I found it to be extremely political. Your success there will depend greatly on who you know, and whether that person remains in power or not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward people based on their work, not on their connections.
