Pros
Good place to start your career or enhance your skill set; generally a young, progressive work culture; reasonable work-life balance
Cons
Hard to move off of a project or account; difficult to get promoted -- VERY subjective at the discretion of the manager; virtually no raises or bonuses
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your workforce and talent pool; develop your consultants; institute leadership development training for your managers; increase transparency and communication within the organization
Pros
Great training ground. I would recommend anyone that can to get on with a consulting company right out of university. You learn a mountain of information in a short time.
Cons
You have to be ready to hit the ground running and you haave to do this on your own. There is not a lot of support when starting out with the company, or sometimes on the project. Once you get a network developed within the firm, it is better.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't promise bonuses when you know the company is going down. Just use the golden rule, rather than over promise and over deliver.
Pros
Like all consulting firms, BearingPoint offered fantastic experience to interact with many different clients. I worked for 15-20 Fortune 500 clients during my 4 years at BearingPoint.
Cons
BearingPoint unfortunately struggled with poor management communication as it worked through multiple CEOs, internal reorgs, etc. At times you worked very long hours and were under high stress conditions. The nonstop travel definitely got a little tedious at times.
Advice to Senior Management
The one thing I wish BearingPoint did more of was work to make it a fun work environment like Deloitte and other consulting firms. There were very few activities, social events, etc. in our office and I only really got to know people on my specific projects.
Pros
BearingPoint UK office has a close network of colleagues. You will benefit and learn from early exposure to Partners/clients. There are some key projects and some really clever and great people still work there.
Cons
BearingPoint, good name (prior to bankruptcy last year) but now on a downward trend with pipeline thinning and good people running for cover. The company has moved from a US headquartered firm to pan European partnership. A lot was made of the fact the company struggled with the lack of leadership from the US but things havent changed much and the company really has lost some of its identity with the US firm being sold to Deloitte/PwC.
I see tough times ahead and it is certainly a challenge to win work at a firm which has gone through major restructuring and bankruptcy. There are some really good people there in certain areas and if you can get onto some of the key projects you will learn considerably from the good people aronud you but overall the firm is practically top heavy and is not selling enough work.
There isnt enough opportunity for Senior Cons to do managerial consulting and training isnt seen as a priority. Every year they churn out a new strategy on how to take the company forward but things never really change. Promotions have been made reactively to prevent good people leaving and on the whole doesnt seem merit based.
Advice to Senior Management
-Install new leadership European and UK level
-Promote a more entrepreneurial culture and increase benefits to consultants
-Forget the endless strategies to turn the company around each year, nobody cares just get on and do it
-Install a merit based promotions system - ensuring everyone has enough opportunity to deliver
-Take out the favouritism amongst partners/senior mgmt on consultants and ensure everyone gets sufficient opportunity to be utilised and learning
-Focus on the training
-Become more flexible and share the knowledge
Pros
Camaraderie with coworkers. Good project work. Interesting and exciting clients. Got to travel the world on the companies dime. If your Managing Director was good, this was a very good place to work.
Cons
Many cons. How about atrocious senior management. No consideration for work or life balance (what can you expect, its consulting). In 8 years only received one bonus.
Its now bankrupt, 'nuff said.
Advice to Senior Management
A series of terrible CEO's and bad Senior Management lead this place into the ground. Sad. A lot of good people and good work was done at this company, only to be driven into the ground by incompetent management. This place suffered from one management debacle after another.
Pros
Good place to show what the consulting life is like. The firm has many clients in all disciplines that allow it employees to see all aspects of industry
Cons
there was a lack of structure within the firm due to the finanical complications the firm was in. there were constant rumors of the potential selloffs
Advice to Senior Management
senior management should do a better job of communicating to its employees so that rumors do not scare its employees
Pros
Rather good salaries, some stability, professional and helpful co-workers, corporative retreats, generous to some extent, brand to add to your CV
Cons
Very formal vertical structure with some close people runnig the business (I have nothing against feminism, but women rule in this company).
Advice to Senior Management
No advices: Let management make decision on their own :)
Pros
Good career advancement upto manager level. Reasonably good compensation. 5 week PTO from Senior Consultant level. Lots of training opportunities if you are not on a project.
Cons
No Bonus. Need to build strong relationship with MD's for promotions and absolutely no growth beyond Manager level, if you are on H1B status.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to really be an equal employment opportunity employer.
Pros
Very long PTO, senior consultant level above gets 25 days per year,
good benefit
decent salary
don't have to travel in my office
Cons
too many management, a lot of people in the management position doesn't have the knowledge or skill they need to
Advice to Senior Management
well, i do not have to suggest any thing because this company already bankrucpted
because of the debt and the finanl crsis
Pros
Relaxed atmosphere, and good time off policies. Very flexible with time management. Great staff and had good career growth plans for employees.
Cons
Company no longer in business - mismanaged at the top.
Advice to Senior Management
nothing to add really, wish the company could have lasted a bit longer.
