I have had a great experience working at BMH. The staff and patients are friendly and it is a friendly workplace.

I have been working at Beaufort Memorial Hospital as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

    Benefits
    Lots of vacation time
Small-town feel (everyone knows you after a month working there)
Lots of education experience online and in the classrooms across the street (BMAC)

    Cons

There are many employees who do not do their share of work and it seems like this is not addressed often times. Others will pick up the slack to just get through the shift and not deal with any conflict.
There are a lot of politics within the small town system and many departments are locked with their employees and family members. Departments are allowed to hire immediate family and even married couples, which seems a little unprofessional. That leaves the question of whether this wife/daughter/mother/brother/sister etc. got hired because they were the most qualified or because they are most recommended by the family member?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye on the family hiring that goes on within departments. Do basic quality control even in your "closed" departments, they should not be allowed to be self-governed

    Great Employees, Poor Senior Management

I have been working at Beaufort Memorial Hospital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Clinical, ancillary and support staff are great.

    Cons

Communication between senior management and staff is very poor. They are viewed as completely out of touch with the reality of the hospital. The organization preaches a "promote from within" policy but rarely practices it since their leadership team is very tenured (read old) and no one retires. Pay is fine, but other benefits have decreased in recent years- PDO, medical premiums, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None that they would actually take to heart.

I worked at Beaufort Memorial Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable for a while and attempts have been made to improve processes. Recent expansion of physician practices will provide some stability in the future.

    Cons

Culture is grounded in 20th century. Critical service line inefficiencies. Support services are being trimmed while some service line departments with higher salaries are non-productive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look closely at efficiencies and disrupt inefficiencies.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital is the employer of choice in Beaufort County

I have been working at Beaufort Memorial Hospital

    Pros

Beaufort Memorial is very fair when it comes to compensation and pay increases. Everyone is treated the same. Senior management understands that family comes first and encourages people to take time off in family emergencies. They also encourage staff to further their education and offer tuition reimbursement and scholarships. They also offer a lot of educational experiences at the hospital.

    Cons

One of the biggest downsides to working at Beaufort Memorial is the lack of parking for the staff. The staff will park in visitor parking, therefore taking up a good bit of that parking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are some staff that go way beyond what their duties are. They should be rewarded. Also, there are some staff who do not work as hard as they could and others have to pitch in. I believe they are too slow to use any corrective action against these employees.
