    Pros

Decent hours...fun atmosphere. ..free products...could earn points for cool stuff...20% employee discount

    Cons

Extremely low pay...raises were insulting. ..DM is terrible, major favoritism and just not helpful...and should be closed on Sundays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have better pay, pay attention to who you have as a DM...Some are just not professional and effective.

    Pros

Free product supplied by vendors, bonuses, great hours, employee rewards program, health, dental, vision insurance, 401K, paid holiday and vacation

    Cons

Working at a low pay, both hourly and salary. They will take advantage of you if you always offer to help, which leads you feeling under-appreciated, overworked and exhausted. They have trouble keeping stores fully staffed due to pay. There are also training issues due to the policies they have. Some are followed and some are not. There are many people who are treated as "favorites" and they are not disciplined when they are clearly going against company policy. Lots of store drama and older employees who are set in their ways. They do not like change whether its management, policy or other operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a new training program for managers and hourly employees, increase pay (afterall, minimum wage will be going up very soon) Make your employees feel appreciated and important. They are the ones making money for you and hitting the store goals, not you or your DMs/TMs.

Outside sales competes with Company store ….

Former Employee - Outside Sales Consultant

    Pros

Freedom to make schedule, work life balance good, free hair products and samples, Lots of brands to offer.

    Cons

Job starts as guaranteed pay but after one year becomes straight commission. If you haven't built enough business (while competing with store sales), you will not make money. Lots of travel with little to no travel allowance. Company doesn't always follow through with promises and support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change structure so stores and reps work together to grow business. Look at salary plus commission pay plan for better financial security for your sales people who are the face of your company and the ones with relationships with your customers!

Good place to gain experience in order to move on to a better company

    Pros

Free beauty products. Good place for entry level employees to gain experience

    Cons

Pay is far below industry standards. One Category Manager recently left the company for a position paying nearly twice what BSG pays for the same position. A Buyer recently left for a position paying 15k more per year. Year after year great employees are passed over for promotions for external candidates, some of whom are grossly underqualified. One external hire's portfolio had numerous misspelled words and was sent to the entire department and vendors. There are no senior positions, so all employees have to look forward to is the 3% raise that everyone receives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take notice that morale is so low because of the low pay and no advancement potential. Stop making employees feel that the company doesn't value them.

    Pros

Not much. Good place for entry level only

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement. Pay is very low. 3% raises no matter how good or bad of an employee you are. No recognition for good work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take notice of your employees. They care. You are losing great employees. Employee morale is awful.

    Pros

The people, plain and simple. If you're blessed with a good immediate supervisor and department lead then the place is marginally tolerable at best.

    Cons

I often wander why the company seems bent on creating the reputation of being the worst possible employer in the area. There is no community activity. The company acts like a bully to its employees, the vendors, the shipping and receiving trucking companies, and to an extent its customers. They can't pay their bills on time and I often hear reports of accounts being closed because BSG failed to pay their bills. They flat out and simply do not care that they wreck people's lives with the amount of overtime that we're required to work. When overtime is a continual and ongoing situation then it's an obvious sign of mismanagement. They like to say that the pay is competitive and that may be the case 10+ years ago, but in all honesty with what we make why deal with the lies and headaches? I would honestly and gladly give up the mediocre at best pay for the ability to have a life back. With the attitude of, and I quote directly from the management "if you don't like it, then there's the (major expletive) door" who could blame anyone for leaving. How many times have we heard that "McDonald's is always hiring?" I read all the positive and glowing reviews for this company and you can tell immediately that it was posted by a newbie who has drank the koolaid or someone in management who actually gets to have a family life outside of work while all the little ants scurry around trying to get through the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Never think that you're too big to fail. No matter what technology you implement it will never take the place of good customer service beginning with your employees, but seriously would I know? I just work there.

    Pros

Plenty of vacation time. You can acquire sick time and sell some back.

    Cons

It is a company that likes to buy out smaller companies and gut them.If you are one of the employees that didn't get laid off as soon as they came in you are always waiting for the axe to fall.

    Pros

Job security becuase you will wear multiple hats, they operate on a tight crew.

    Cons

Top heavy with little advancement oportunities. The compensation is not worth all the hard labor. Unless you are in upper managment, as in on the 4th floor, you are a glorified work horse.

Free high end salon products to try every month. Commission system based off points that you earn for selling specific items that can be redeemed on the employee rewards site. Lots of easy but busy work that makes the day go by quickly. Really nice coworkers.

    Cons

Low pay and demanding customers who can be very rude when we are unable to deviate from company policies in order to satisfy their strange requests.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing, but maybe pay a little more.
