    Pros

A great customer base, and awesome employee incentive rewards.

    Cons

Hard to advance. Would hire management from the outside instead of promoting from within. High turnover rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Associate the employees you have.

I have been working at Beauty Systems Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The occasional opportunity for education on products provided by Reps., samples, and the connections/relationships made with salon owners.

    Cons

Not a place to work as a career. I have worked here for more than 2 years and have been "baited" with offers for positions that have not materialized. Very low pay especially for the amount of work required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rewarding managers who only put the company at risk for legal action erodes the morale of quality employees.
If this company continues to refuse providing it's employees with a livable wage then at very least hire competent managers who will treat employees like the human beings that we are.

BSG Merchandising- A lot Drama with Lacking Leadership

I worked at Beauty Systems Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    • Cafeteria
    • Nice Corporate Office
    • Free Products
    • Personal Printer

    Cons

    • No advancement opportunities
    • Appalling leadership/ management
    • Low Pay
    • Poor Benefits
    • Outdated Technology
    o Systems and system support
o Desktops only- not to mention no one has their own laptops, the one laptop was shared between groups
o No system security, ie above
    • Environment resistant to change
    • Backstabbing work environment, with unprofessional management
    • Inefficient processes

After reading the overall reviews and the above statements of the company, it is clear this is a less than ideal work environment.
Understandably, working at a retail based company has some of the same challenges. However, the real issue here is the management and senior leadership. They promote gossip, favoritism and yes people. They are unprofessional in every sense of the word and are not interested in managing their employees.
Even though, I worked there years ago, the management has not changed nor has the problem employees moved on to other opportunities. Instead, they were promoted and assumingly continue to cause problems in the department.
Unfortunately, the years worked there were a wash, I didn’t learn anything worth noting on a resume. No skills, no growth opportunities or challenging projects, the job itself was not difficult and in fact very tactical at best.
The only hope I have while writing this review, is that a newly graduated job seeker will think twice about working here. Merchandising may sound glamorous, however, at this particular company it isn’t. Keep looking for a position that is a good fit, promotes growth and will challenge you daily. These things are not a priority at BSG, and from the lack of change, proves they never will be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at senior management, listen to your employees, and provide management training. Review processes to increase efficiency, increase pay and understand why there are so many turnovers in one area.

I worked at Beauty Systems Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Loved working with the customers, nice employee discount, decent hours for retail.

    Cons

Poor upper management, DM & TM for the district were extremely unprofessional and would belittle you in front of other employees. DM would talk about employees behind there backs and among other employees. Upper management lacked complete professionalism. Managers & employees were told to do everything by the employee handbook but DM's could get away with just about anything. My particular DM would come and go as she pleased and would falsify her time. Watching upper management get away with what they did & treat employees like peons was difficult and made it difficult to have respect for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a closer eye on your District Managers, teach your DM's & TM 's to have some respect and dignity towards there employees beneath them. The company claimed to be an "honest" company, my experience the last year was nothing but lies and betrayal.

I have been working at Beauty Systems Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Every day is different dealing with customers. Because everyday is different it gives me energy and makes my day fun helping customers. I enjoy the passion about the beauty industry that the customers bring every day. And I also enjoy my co-workers.

    Cons

Hmmmm....There's not much room for upward movement and that can be pretty disappointing. People work hard and should be rewarded with promotions and such when deserved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give every single employee bonuses, not only the upper management. It's the people in the lower positions that help make the sales and they should be able to reap the benefits too. The store points aren't enough sometimes.

    Pros

Hard to find any Pros to working here....

    Cons

Company leadership = "the good ole boys club". Not sure how their managers got their jobs, most likely by years and not by their abilities to "lead" their teams! If you lie and cheat you will most likely keep your job! And maybe become a manager!
Good luck if you ask for help!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your dead weight management! Consider treating all employees fairly and stop celebrating bad behavior!

I worked at Beauty Systems Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Free product supplied by vendors, bonuses, great hours, employee rewards program, health, dental, vision insurance, 401K, paid holiday and vacation

    Cons

Working at a low pay, both hourly and salary. They will take advantage of you if you always offer to help, which leads you feeling under-appreciated, overworked and exhausted. They have trouble keeping stores fully staffed due to pay. There are also training issues due to the policies they have. Some are followed and some are not. There are many people who are treated as "favorites" and they are not disciplined when they are clearly going against company policy. Lots of store drama and older employees who are set in their ways. They do not like change whether its management, policy or other operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a new training program for managers and hourly employees, increase pay (afterall, minimum wage will be going up very soon) Make your employees feel appreciated and important. They are the ones making money for you and hitting the store goals, not you or your DMs/TMs.

No advancement , managers hold employees back from possible promotions within the company

I have been working at Beauty Systems Group

    Pros

Decent store hours not open late. Also, not open to public. Only to licensed professionals.

    Cons

Lacking growth opportunities, low pay wages

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is complacant, they need to rotate managers and offer them more challenges. They should never hold employees back from possible promotions within the company.

I worked at Beauty Systems Group full-time

    Pros

Freedom to make schedule, work life balance good, free hair products and samples, Lots of brands to offer.

    Cons

Job starts as guaranteed pay but after one year becomes straight commission. If you haven't built enough business (while competing with store sales), you will not make money. Lots of travel with little to no travel allowance. Company doesn't always follow through with promises and support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change structure so stores and reps work together to grow business. Look at salary plus commission pay plan for better financial security for your sales people who are the face of your company and the ones with relationships with your customers!
