    Pros

Great employee engagement; technical and social events, career development, many courses offered in office and on-line. Excellent salary and benefits Managers have an open door policy to promote discussion and questions.

    Cons

Management has difficult solidifying long-term work. People often get laid-off and re-hired depending on work load, therefore, no job stability

THIER is a huge language barrier

    Pros

They're the ENR #1 contractor 17 years running for a reason. There's a strong vision, values, and ethics plan in place. There's a sense of belonging that stems from it still being a private, family company. My time here has been such a positive experience, I continue to learn daily, and I've heard no complaints about the company from my colleagues, a rare find in any civil firm or company.

    Cons

Given the breadth of work the goes on at Bechtel, these cons are only from what I see in my area. There does seem to be a bit of a generational lag that impacts innovation potential. There are older staff hesitant to move along with progressing computing applications and work platforms. Information sharing among GBU's could be better as well. There are supposedly recent corporate initiatives to address both these cons.

    Advice to Management

Don't change the core values that have brought you this far. Continue to hire people rather than buy up companies. Use your private status to stand for quality over bottom line dividends. Take action to make the world you're building a better place.

    Pros

Excel at EPCM, lots of professionals, projects are large because of company access to these

    Cons

Lay-off follows projects need, a bit cold at first since everyone comes from a different country but it warms up fast

    Pros

This is a long ago established company and things remain the same. You come to the office and then leave after your eight hours. Even though sometimes your work requires you to stay longer, on most days I can leave on time and leave work behind me.

    Cons

The company is old fashioned. Don't expect fancy .com treatment. No working from home.

    Advice to Management

There is still some favoritism left. You don't always feel like you have the same opportunities than the guy next to you.

    Finding work/life balance

    Pros

401(k) plan with employer matching employee contributions (up to maximum allowed).

    Cons

Company espouses/encourages employees to find work/life balance. Unfortunately a reduced staff/workforce has resulted in remaining employees taking on additional responsibilities.

    Pros

Family feel even though the company is huge. Great work life balance, 4 weeks of PTO and good benefits which includes 9% 401k match. Company is still building the most amazing infrastructure projects in the world.

    Cons

Pay and bonus are below standard. Hard to move up if you are in the corporate functions and are not willing to move

    Advice to Management

Don't settle to pay your employees average for the industry. If you want to be the best E&C company, you need to attract the best talent and that doesn't come cheap. Reward employees as the bonus structure is outdated and well below par. Find ways to promote from within in the corporate functions rather than going out to find people - take a chance on the talent you already have.
