I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The pay was great and the job was easy. Diverse group of people with different background. I can see the company growing

    Cons

Clean room environment, so gowning up and down was annoying. Management was horrible at listening to the production employees. Shifts didn't get along very well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees more and actually do something about it.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter

    Pros

-New graduates, getting your experience to add to your resume
-Good people in general to work with

    Cons

-Keep adding work, responsibilities, but do not hire additional help
-The craziness of being accountable, daily report and all the "danaher crap". To write down your action steps is a good idea, plan out 6 months of work is ok, but there is no "help" when you encounter problems. They make you feel worthless or not doing your job when you're late
-Management in general is always about "let's keep pushing" and keep pushing until you can't take it anymore
-Management are afraid of "signing" off or approving stuff nowadays because they're so afraid of being responsible for stuff in the future
-They do not value your contribution as their pay and bonuses suck. It's one thing to make you work hard and you can try, but it's another thing to give you a 5% raise and 3-4% bonus year after year
-Can't have work life balance at all

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Need to realistically look at what you're doing and radically change your system and ways before all the good people leave
-IF you're going to make your employees work that hard and not hire more, the least you could do is actually PAY MORE!!!! Money doesn't mean
-Engagement surveys in the past have given you indications that you have a problem, stop trying to clarify the words and the way the questions are to get better results. Either that, or stop trying to pretend that employees' opinions count by repeatedly giving the survey, either way it's irritating

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pot lucks and party's they give to boost moral instead of fixing the problems that are making employees unhappy.

    Cons

No communication between managment and employees. Supervisors and managers are there for each other and very dishonest. Disfunctional atmosphere. it doesn't matter what you know or how hard you work it only matters WHO YOU KNOW!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop covering for each other and start communicating with your employees. Communication is important. Open up your eyes and look at the big picture instead of zoning in on your favoret worker. stop playing games and being dishonest with your team.

I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good opportunity if you are upper management learning Danaher Business Systems.

    Cons

Expected to meet metrics. Since Danaher came, it's all about the DBS system. Too much micromanaging at all levels, doesn't feel like we are doing it for the customer. No new R & D development, but more excessive procedures, policies, training, and systems put in place. Can't seem to just fix the real problems. No real advancements unless you want to try something else you are not really qualified for, but still given the position since you are internal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employee engagement surveys are unrealistic. Maybe at reviews, do listen and clue in to what your employee wants and feels. That should tell you something why people don't like what they are doing anymore. It's not a career, it's just a job.

    Pros

Good environment to work, the benefits are good

    Cons

This company is all about internal development and growth, however, whenever a position is available they go external instead of internal.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

You get your paycheck every 2 weeks. Middle management is held as accountable sameas any other employee

    Cons

High Stress. High count of people leaving, low count on people hired. Employees are not heard. You are often asked by upper management, what can be done to make your job better, but keep in mind, cannot add staff, it can't cost money, and we cannot remove any work from your busy desk. Your voice and concerns are not heard, unless it will improve the bottom line. Employees are of not value to the company. You are a cog in a wheel and you will be broken and replaced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is nothing that can be said. They have heard it all, and have even hired an outside contract company to find out why employees are leaving. Retention rate is in the tank. And the employee survery that is mandatory, does not address the issues that the employees want to really discuss. I am not longer angry about the decline of Beckman Coulter, I am just a numb and very sad employee of over 10 years.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of good hardworking intelligent employees.
The western suburb location is good with adequate facilities and free parking. The large Danaher family of companies should provide lots of opportunities.

    Cons

This Danaher company is extremely high pressure.
Management is disrespectful of employees on a daily basis. Employees are disposable and not valued. The top priority is the bottom line.
Integrity is consistently compromised as over pressured management personnel is disrespectful of employees on a daily basis. Employee benefits are expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Micromanagement and daily management practices drive wrong employee behavior and incorrect priorities.

    Pros

Collaborative culture, friendly employees, progressive pockets

    Cons

Since acquistion by Danaher companies a dark cloud has hung over this once vibrant, albeit imperfect work place. Some real advances from the 'danaher business system' are offset by the continual quest to bleed the site out of every possible dollar. This and the steady trickle of staffing reductions has taken a big toll on morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Admit you're still trying to shower off from the duplicitous 'DBS friendship tour' immediately following acquistion. The truth will set you free.

I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Beckman Coulter at least at the Chaska, Minnesota site is an excellent place to start or continue a career. The company is very focused on staff development, demonstrating the knowledge that well motivated staff is mission critical.

    Cons

There has been times of unfortunate "inbreeding" by longer term middle management at various sites, that was not properly identified and addressed by upper management. This did damaged product development and subsequent profitability. This type of situation can happen anywhere. The recent acquisition by Danaher is a very positive development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to monitor actual versus reported activities looking for reporting with too much polish. The overall company is well worth the extra effort.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Except for few honest real good technical people and neat product, nothing is great there
They even ship instruments with so many defects and question their quality management for hurrying things , Support individuals for mocking other employee, No employee work ethics...dont know what else..Just hire people who can work, work and hire contractors as full time employee who dont have right employee behavior..

    Cons

Bad attitude, zero collaboration, no engagement, high stressful work and also work for which you havent been hired for..dirty jobs, severe major politics where HR plays pivotal role to save their "Loud mouth attitude" people, unrecognized talent...Senior management talks big stuff "Integration, compliance, " but nothing in action, No vision.....Please dont join...Horrible company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest your politics and tactics at some other joint. Dont play with talented and skilled employees and sell your sales pitch to some of your unique product..
