I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pot lucks and party's they give to boost moral instead of fixing the problems that are making employees unhappy.

    Cons

No communication between managment and employees. Supervisors and managers are there for each other and very dishonest. Disfunctional atmosphere. it doesn't matter what you know or how hard you work it only matters WHO YOU KNOW!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop covering for each other and start communicating with your employees. Communication is important. Open up your eyes and look at the big picture instead of zoning in on your favoret worker. stop playing games and being dishonest with your team.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good place to get field experience gain confidence then leave for much greener pastures elsewhere. Fairly secure job since many people with experience leave.

    Cons

Tell new hires to ignore the experienced reps chatter since they are "cranky". Too dependent upon the "matrix". Management does not leave a warm fuzzy when I listen to their phone conferences, still clueless as to why experience leaves. They changed the pay scale for field service downward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have Danaher sell the company, the entire management team needs to be replaced by people who want to move forward with R&D and become relevant again , return to what made Beckman the company......It's the Customer stupid......

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There is always job openings across the nation if you want to move. Decent pay, company van, all vehicle expenses (including personal gas) paid for.

    Cons

Danaher (parent company) is too focused on short term individual goals instead of looking at the big picture. There is always jobs open across the nation for a reason, and by talking to former employees, I would estimate 85% of that reason is because Danaher sets unrealistic goals then uses these against you when you don't achieve them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the big picture, which is supposed to be, and used to be, taking care of the customer. That's how we became to be a powerhouse back in the day. We've lost sight of this and customers are becoming more and more displeased.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the most talented people I have ever worked with. Great team atmosphere and collaboration culture despite the OBEYA concept. Nice work life balance.

    Cons

Research & Development was left only to development since no research has been done in the past decade and a half.
Recently even development has been superseded by acquisitions and outsourcing to L&T.
Everyone is is constant fear of loosing their jobs.
Little to no opportunity for growth.
Bad quarter are made up by firing people regardless of their talent, or contributions.
Management is stuck between DBS and the real world. They are willing to do whatever it takes to keep their jobs and their superiors happy. Lots of time wasted without projects or meaningful work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My hope is that Beckman Coulter gets dumped from the Danaher portfolio. It is the only chance it has to become once again an innovative company that pushes technology to its limits. Currently, technology keeps moving forwards despite Danaher like umbrella multi-national corporations.

I have been working at Beckman Coulter as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Nice work environment
    - Lot of internal collaborative teams for knowledge/ technology transfer
    - Nice and good staff/ coworkers / managers
    - You will be surviving if you are a biologist..
    - Location

    Cons

    - Unusual layoff's
    - Lack of direction from the higher management: Projects will be discontinues suddenly, priorities changes drastically, you will be working as scientist in one group today and will be shifted to another group as development assistant next day.. or lose your job due to 'organizational changes'
    - Your job is uncertain if you are not a biologist or an engineer
    - Watch out for Q1 and Q2 results.. if they are not good, Q3 will be a time where you see lot of layoffs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Need to invest money on research as well as development
    - Old patents/ products will not bring money... new research will do
    - encourage new ideas, develop business in new areas.. rather than depending on old business ideas..

    Pros

You get a company car. Accruing PTO

    Cons

Upper Management no longer cares about the boots on the ground. Nothing but a matrix, matrix’s work against each other and the over all attitude of employee’s are very low. Every one is leaving and management is doing nothing to stop this.If you hear the worked Danaher run for the hills

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to stop curious management and plan for the future.

I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Used to be a good company up until Danaher acquired it. If you must work for the company, use it to build up your resume and leave after a few years.

    Cons

No vision or direction. Everything is about the bottom line. No work/life balance. Your opinions are not valued and you are always replaceable. Departments are in silos Nasty management with backstabbing and flat-out unprofessional behavior.
