Pros
great working environment, employees get along and usually are not micro-managed
Cons
managers give you the run around when it comes to promotions. there is a lot of miss-communication between management.
Advice to Senior Management
make sure that you get a high pay at the beginning and that you are on the fast track if not it will take long for you to move up within the company.
Pros
Fun to work there while in college.
Cons
It's a man's world. Only the men get promoted very sexes company!
Advice to Senior Management
Corporate needs to pay more attention to the associates not the managers. The managers take the credit for the associates work.
Pros
Pay rate was better than comparable retail companies.
Favorable scheduling for balance between family and work.
One weekend day off every week.
Cons
Too much of a salesman-too many items to upsell. If I'm buying a sheet set, as a customer, don't try to sell me protectors, pads, blankets, pillows that I don't need.
Way too much freight. Freight flows in every single day, and I felt like I was a glorified stocker. There is no reason to have 36 weeks supply of an item in the store.
Too many chiefs making decisions. They tell you that you have the freedom to make merchandising decisions, but there are DMs, district customer service trainers, regional customer service trainers, district merchandise managers, regional merchandise managers, etc. all involved in the decision making. Too many people with input.
Pros
Managers at this store in particular are very good to their employees. Everyone at the store gets along for the most part and hours are pretty decent, especially for part time employees. Very good about working around school schedules and family vacations as well.
Cons
Some issues that come up include having miscommunication between departments and levels of management that could be easily solved through more general meetings with management before encountering employees about issues at hand.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe if management provided more ways for employees to advance and become more knowledgeable about the store, I think the store would run smoother and with less conflict.
Pros
You gain a great deal of product knowledge and sales experience. The company at its highest levels is well managed and debt free.
Cons
You can pretty much expect to be thrown under the bus by management in my experience
Pros
Discounts and working with good people, fellow employees.
Cons
Constant micro-management and little recognition.
Advice to Senior Management
Up employee moral by providing daily encouragement instead of constant criticism.
Pros
very excitable customers, great product assortments.
Cons
it's all negative; people, attitudes, feedback, direction.
Advice to Senior Management
Turn your philosophy around and start focusing on the positives in the environment. The negatives should be used as tools for growth, not an everyday accepted way of life! You make employees miserable, and physically ill. I was physically ill/sick for almost 2 yrs straight. There's something wrong with that. Take a look at the overall health of your employees.
Pros
great merchandise. peers are great to work with.
Cons
Hire managers with different backgrounds, Then.promise them a promotion. skip over the great employees
Advice to Senior Management
Listen
Pros
good job for hourly associate trying to make ends meet
Cons
"people first" is not even on the radar
Advice to Senior Management
use a mirror
Pros
The customer service skills you gain while working there are phenomenal. I gained the skills necessary to move on to a better company.
Cons
Management is very sarcastic and uncompassionate. They do not care if your 4 year old daughter has a fever of 104 and needs to be in the hospital. They don't help you complete your job when you're overwhelmed.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your keyholders better to be more professional and not speak about EVERY employee behind their backs.
