Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Pay rate was better than comparable retail companies.
Favorable scheduling for balance between family and work.
One weekend day off every week.
Cons
Too much of a salesman-too many items to upsell. If I'm buying a sheet set, as a customer, don't try to sell me protectors, pads, blankets, pillows that I don't need.
Way too much freight. Freight flows in every single day, and I felt like I was a glorified stocker. There is no reason to have 36 weeks supply of an item in the store.
Too many chiefs making decisions. They tell you that you have the freedom to make merchandising decisions, but there are DMs, district customer service trainers, regional customer service trainers, district merchandise managers, regional merchandise managers, etc. all involved in the decision making. Too many people with input.
Pros
Managers at this store in particular are very good to their employees. Everyone at the store gets along for the most part and hours are pretty decent, especially for part time employees. Very good about working around school schedules and family vacations as well.
Cons
Some issues that come up include having miscommunication between departments and levels of management that could be easily solved through more general meetings with management before encountering employees about issues at hand.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe if management provided more ways for employees to advance and become more knowledgeable about the store, I think the store would run smoother and with less conflict.
Pros
You gain a great deal of product knowledge and sales experience. The company at its highest levels is well managed and debt free.
Cons
You can pretty much expect to be thrown under the bus by management in my experience
Pros
Discounts and working with good people, fellow employees.
Cons
Constant micro-management and little recognition.
Advice to Senior Management
Up employee moral by providing daily encouragement instead of constant criticism.
Pros
As an employee you experience doing everything from being a cashier, sales associate, stocking/receiving, and possibly a bridal consultant. Monthly incentives off of random items is nice. Appraisal from managers when you do good work is a plus.
Cons
Required to do nearly every position available even if you do not want to, horrible and inconsistent hours very from week to week, managers can for lack of a better term be super anal when it comes to manage overall store look, can only have so many full time employees so once they are filled as an hourly you can not receive any health/medical benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to manage time better when it comes to freight or projects or learn how to actually do the work rather than sitting back and forcing others to do it for you.
Pros
Co-workers are firendly not catty.
Cons
too many managers, none of them knowing what the other was doing. Too many hands in the weekly schedules, they are all screwed up. They dont give rest breaks for 5-6 hours. (such as at least 10 minutes) You have to work 6 1/2 or more hours a day to get a break , and then you have to clock out for it. You are not told when you start the demeaning work they force on you, such as cleaning the public bathrooms, and forcing you to do the job of 3 people. No chance for advancement there. If you are assigned to work after the store closes, the air is shut off, and you are a pile of sweat by the time you leave. I saw many a worker crying and saying they hope to find something else soon. Most of the employees there are trying to get out as soon as they can. Its a very disturbing job You have to say to yourself, COME ON, YOU CAN FIND SOMETHING BETTER THAN THIS.
Advice to Senior Management
DONT TREAT THE EMPLOYEES LIKE DIRT, ALL YOU ARE DOING IS LOSING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE, TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT.
Pros
Better quality of life with my family, decent pay for job, clean store, family environment
Cons
No advancement opportunitites I feel, no bonus opportunity for mid-management, have wrong person in SDMGR position-very UNPOSITIVE
Advice to Senior Management

Pros
The customer service skills you gain while working there are phenomenal. I gained the skills necessary to move on to a better company.
Cons
Management is very sarcastic and uncompassionate. They do not care if your 4 year old daughter has a fever of 104 and needs to be in the hospital. They don't help you complete your job when you're overwhelmed.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your keyholders better to be more professional and not speak about EVERY employee behind their backs.
Pros
good job for hourly associate trying to make ends meet
Cons
"people first" is not even on the radar
Advice to Senior Management
