Pros
Flexible hours
Work well with school schedule
Team work is great
Cons
If you are cannot multitask, then this place might be a bit overwhelming.
Expect you to finish tasks in a short time period
If you are not full time be expected to work weekends
Can be overwhelming if you are the only one working in a particular section: for example, if you are working on the soft side of the store with a phone call and needed for back up cashier and have multiple costumers waiting for help. Can be a bit stressful, but does not happen often.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow time for tasks to be completed.
Pros
Growing company
Management willing to listen to everyone's ideas
Customer service is #1a goal
Cons
You have to be one of the " chosen to get ahead.
Only senior management gets significant increases
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of the employees who do most of the work
Pros
Good associates to work with.
Cons
Need to give credit where credit is due to associates.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to give credit where credit is due to associates.
Pros
Benefits are very good including stock options. There is opportunity if you work for it and are willing to move around from store to store. Promote from within culture means that you get a chance to prove yourself regardless of your background. Processes are straight forward and customer service philosophy makes it a pleasure to work in a store--simple, effective and sensible. Good business model and a strong company with a very good future outlook.
Cons
Different levels of leadership experience and promote from within culture mean that you are not always working with the best person for the job. You will find overqualified and uninterested and underqualified and struggling often among leadership that are not always a good fit for thier position.
Advice to Senior Management
Work more diligently to get people into the positions that are the best fit through better competency assessment.
Pros
Good pay and benefits. you have control of your business, you are the buyer and the merchandiser .
Cons
High stress. always busy no down time no positive feedback. if you get a bad store manager good luck. they rely to heavily on pt people. You truly do it all. very hard to get time off even for the birth of a child....really. work load is not realistic
Advice to Senior Management
In retail there is never enough hours but you guys are to the extreme. positive feedback is a good thing. need to find ways to police your store managers better, alot better
Pros
meeting new people
customer service
co workers are awesome
casual wear only monday -friday
Cons
standing on your feet all day.
Advice to Senior Management
nothing to say i love working at Bed Bath and beyond
Pros
you get a weekend day off if you are a manager
Cons
Plenty of associates with potential to move up that are ignored and new managers that were high level mangers in past companies are promoted too quick and given a 1 year learning curve---leaving the qualified assistants to train and guide them---really????--absolutely kills moral in all levels from asst managers to pt associates
Advice to Senior Management
look at what you have inside .. Plenty of associates with potential to move up that are ignored and new managers that were high level mangers in past companies are promoted too quick and given a 1 year learning curve---leaving the qualified assistants to train and guide them---really????--absolutely kills moral in all levels from asst managers to pt associates. -----
Pros
A fast paced environment with great Management Salaries and opportunities to advance into a Store Manager position. The company "allowed" you to some leeway in how you could run your particular area of the store (either as a Merchandizing ASM / Hardside/Softside/Operations). 20% discounts on merchandise. Good medical/dental benefits.
Cons
The job profile and expectations that you are told during the interview process ARE NOT REALITY! You work very long hours. It is physically demanding (you go up and down ladders all day, I prob dropped 20lbs while I was there). You are never given enough hours for labor to get any task done quickly and efficiently. You basically are on your own to 'figure out' the culture and by the time you do you end up asking yourself 'Is this really worth it?' Yes they do pay there Managers well, but only to get them in the door. After that then they go thru an attrition process to see who "sticks", and by "sticks" who is really willing to deal with all their "BS". If your hurting for a job go for it. If you have options DON"T DO IT!
Advice to Senior Management
More hours allocated to stores for staffing. Be honest about expectations and job descriptions with prospective managers
Pros
The pay is good compares to other companies. I learned a cool way to fold towels that I still use today.
Cons
As a closer you cannot leave until the whole store is ready for open the next day. As a college student I would often get home after midnight which was not good for me.
Advice to Senior Management
Management was ok.
Pros
Your hard work pays off.
Cons
Health benefits used to be AWESOME. But has gone down hill. We basically pay for a discount. NOT GOOD.
Advice to Senior Management
You don't have to be a jerk to get people to do there job. BE NICE!!!!
