    Sales Associate

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsThis was a great position to have while finishing my Bachelors Degree. The hours were flexible, the teams i worked with were very laid back, and supportive. Ideas were appreciated, and encouraged. If you worked hard management always took care of you with sick leave, vacation time, and even in rooms around the stores (Phoenix AZ).

ConsToo many lifers, you have to work random shift hours and weekends. By lifers I mean people that have been at BED Bath FOREVER. There is more unnecessary drama than needed with the veterans of the company. Your weekends are shot, and you make have to open on day, close the next, or vice versa (tough to get a consistent schedule).

Advice to Senior ManagementPay better wages to employees who work for it. Try to give regular shifts.

Hard work and no benefits for part-time employees.

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)
    Southaven, MS

Pros20% off on all items in the store. 20 cent annual raise for employees.

ConsNo benefits and no leadership training for part-time employees. As for work/ life balance an employee's shift ended at 10:00pm the very next morning a shift for that same employee started at 8:00am! No benefits for part-time employees means: no tuition reimbursement, no paid time off, no holidays off, no workers compensation, no maternity leave, no bereavement leave and no promotions

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate benefits for part-time employees and leadership/ management training.

My experience at this company is overall good some days and sometimes OK because of the lack of respect.

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsMeeting and Engaging with people from all around the word, Celebrities sometimes come in to shop and the training and meeting are fun. Pay is good also.

ConsSome of the challenges of working here is trying to be patient and stay calm when a costumer get out of line.

The home of erratic hours- don't depend on a steady income

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsThere's the 20% discount- the same one that customers get by saving those magic coupons. Opportunity to gain experience in every department.

ConsOpportunities for promotion if you are willing to totally abandon life outside of work and "volunteer" to travel to other regional stores to help with staffing shortages and overnight setups. Scheduled hours mean nothing- managers on duty will regularly release you an hour early or try to keep you three hours over. As you near your anniversary mark, watch your scheduled hours get whittled away and the newest hires will get them instead. Even if you weren't hired as a cashier, expect to spend a lot of time ringing up front. And if you are a cashier, some stores will also expect you to clean the restrooms every night. Despite ladder "safety" training, unsafe ladder use is encouraged by the layout of the stockroom/ selling floor and by how the receivers/ stockers stack merchandise in both places.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you treat your people more like people rather than serfs or indentured servants, you might not have to worry so much about why you can't keep employees.

ProsThey train you on products so you have the knowledge. Not much variety in the jobs you do.

ConsManagement plays favorites, They promote the 6 month girl over the 3 years girl.

Great company that has it's act together

    Department Manager (Current Employee)
    Mobile, AL

ProsA company that is dedicated to great customer service and safety. They really understand the need for training their employees and make time for that training. The customer is the most important person to the organization and that includes the customers that are their employees.

ConsThe biggest con of the job the physical work that is done everyday. Once you get used to it, the work is not bad. At least it gives you the opportunity to get in shape while you work.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work.

Lots of Hard Work, Most Holidays are Just Another Day

    Sales Associate/Bridal Consultant (Current Employee)
    Denver, CO

ProsFun co-workers, most of the department managers and key holders treat the associates well and not like mindless drones. Not much training available--just learn from mistakes and watching others. Customers are needy but for the most part are fun to work with and always satisfying to help them find what they need/want. Have been a bridal consultant for 6 months. No opportunity for growth for associates. Managers all come from the outside.

ConsOpen almost every holiday now, no extra pay, it's just like any other day. Store and Ops managers cranky a lot and talk down to associates, sometimes treat the associates like children (It's time for your break....") I know the concern is coverage but it can be done more professionally. The hours crunch is ridiculous. The managers sometimes work 12 hr days and we have to beg and borrow to get any extra hours.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou will have happier customers who spend more money if there are associates on the floor to assist them.
