    Pros

Good pay and benefits. That's how they get you...

    Cons

Horrible hours and never enough time to do the job to completion

    Advice to Management

Take the time to realize the store managers just can't do all those tasks, projects, programs, fully unless you give them some help in the stores.

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time

    Pros

It was a fantastic customer service job that taught me to interact well with customers.

    Cons

There were some oral promises that weren't held. They had said equal treatment and they wouldn't ask me to do anything that they wouldn't do. Which was a lie.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing but make sure you don't ask someone to pick out sunflower seeds out of a urinal.

    Pros

Great company to work for. You are expected to know a little of everything no matter what position you hold at the company. The pay doesn't always reflect what you are responsible for. The store I worked for had the best store manager and she was more than willing to work with school schedules

    Cons

Its hard to get a good raise there, as I said you're required to know at minimum the basics on every department. I feel the compensation could've been better for supervisor and above

    Advice to Management

The store I worked for had great management, I would a suggest trying to get enough people to help follow thru with the front end supervision

    Pros

Some of the best people work here, lots of product knowledge.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement, your doing the work of the next level job before getting promoted. Compensation better if you come from another company first.

    Pros

loving people some understanding management percentage off because we are employees Break room drink machine might be getting a food machine in break room

    Cons

customers that don't understand not to get on our ladders when they are 10 feet tall and then get mad when we ask them to get down customers that don't understand when we don't have something we really just don't have it.

    Advice to Management

make it more clear to our customers that they don't run the store we do. make it more clear to your operations managers that the associates availability is set in stone and unchangable.

    Pros

They will hire just about anyone. It is nearly impossible to get fired, they will give you chance after chance because they are so desperate for employees

    Cons

Nearly always understaffed. Seems as if all lower level management is overworked, upper management you hardly ever see. You have to learn nearly everything yourself, forget about someone training or helping you... Mostly everyone has a bad attitude and does not want to work there

    Advice to Management

Pay employees a living wage. Stop hiring teenagers. Fire people after so many offenses. Notice those who actually do work and acknowledge them with a pay increase, promotion, etc.... People who work their rear-ends off get the same recognition and pay as those who hide by the dumpster smoking cigarettes on the clock during an unexpected rush. No one good will stay otherwise... Good luck!!

    Pros

Stable company - very common to walk around and see tenure ranging from 5-25 years. There is large emphasis on the customer and stores. Casual work environment.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunity. Most promotion comes from schmoozing with the big boys and playing within their boundaries. Work/life balance is NOT encouraged.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the good ol' boys mentality and source talent! So many people are being sucked dry and are bored from doing the same thing for years.

    Pros

Middle management was great...a bit overworked.

    Cons

Not enough hours designated solely for customer service. Always divided between stocking and assisting customers, emphasis on stocking and zoning. Staff is generally unhappy and complain a lot and management doesn't emphasis team work, training is done on whim while associates are on the floor.

    Advice to Management

Create a friendly, safe environment for employees emphasis on teamwork and always make the customer #1 priority

    Pros

Great sales development. Teach entrepreneurial approach to retail management. Ability to go above and beyond to assist customer.

    Cons

Extensive service standard. Appreciation not part of company culture. Most meaningful training must be sought out. Get work done at all costs mentality causes difficulty having legitimate work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Internal customers are as important as external customers. Appreciation costs nothing and will leverage the talents of your very effective and well trained associates and managers. Great hands on product trying and development in salesmanship a huge asset that you leverage well.
