    Pros

High degree of independence. Generally left alone so long as you perform your job functions well. At the same time there is a general feeling of comradery.

    Cons

Difficult to take days off. Very very lean personnel means time off = falling behind

    Advice to Management

Need to add more people to the organization so that employees can more easily take their vacation days.

    Pros

    Fair Wages and fair benefits

    Cons

Too many family members in upper management in the same facility. Fathers their sons, brothers and cousins all in upper management at the Van Buren Arkansas facility. Decisions and favoritism from these situations are inevitable and cause major issues daily.

    Advice to Management

Change the family up in the Van Buren Facility.

    Pros

Bekaert is changing for the good! They have an excellent HR department and excellent people in Corporate.

    Cons

A lot of individuals at the plant level are not comfortable with change.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what HR has to say, review your leadership class, listen to everyone not just the select few. Get on the corporate bus. Forget about time consuming written plans get on the plant floor, get your hands dirty and show the men you know what you are doing...

    Pros

The pay and schedule are awesome...plus the job itself is not bad really.

    Cons

The upper management did not show enough support on overhead and care for the people.

    Advice to Management

Start investing more on your people, they're the ones who make the product good or bad.

    Pros

Mature company grew thru acquisition and maintained standards. Good leadership. People-oriented.

    Cons

HR is managed from Belgium so a lot of red tape and impersonal job grading. Not the greatest compensation or upwards communication.

    Advice to Management

Improve and encourage communication from direct reports.

    Pros

Large company with opportunities to grow in and cross the regions as long as you are a good performer.

    Cons

Recent business restructuring caused frequent job and pay cuts. Benefits also deteriorated in the past few years but with new CEO stepping in office, many things can improve.

    Advice to Management

    more transparent communication to employees

    Pros

This was a foot hold for Bekaert, a global steel wire manufacturer that serviced the west coast and pacific northwest. It should have been a much more profitable area. excellent position for the pulp wire market and log bundling strand. Union workers kept a strangle hold on skilled labor.

    Cons

Manpower was constantly an issue and caused problems with invetory and scheduling. Quality department was struggling to keep up with innovation for areas that could have been very profitable for this area of North American market.

    Advice to Management

None, management did a great job with pushing and working with this plant for as long as they could, ultimately too much was going against Bekaert with this particular plant.
