I have been working at Belk
Pros – full-timers recieve benefits: medical, dental, 401k
Cons – no opportunities for advancement, and the pay is an insult
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

I worked at Belk part-time
Pros – The pay is more than minimum wage, which is great for a college student
I was hired as a seasonal associate and then asked to stay on as a permanent associate
I received compensation for helping out in other departments and with inventory
I have met a lot of wonderful people while working there
Lots of incentives for making sales and credit goals
Very flexible with hours and work around my schedule
Cons – There is a lot of stress put on opening credits and in certain departments it can be harder to reach that goal than in orthers
Some managment can disappear from time to time, but that depends on the individual and not the company
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

I have been working at Belk full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – It's a job with a company that is still around and known.
Cons – Unethical people hired too often and good employees forced to deal with them more often than not. This company will break your back and cut your pay at anytime.
Advice to Senior Management – Do not hire probationary employees that you know are difficult and troublemakers.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Belk full-time for less than a year
Pros – Great presence in the community, fun workplace at the corporate office, very dedicated to community service initiatives, CEO and other power players are very visible/approachable.
Cons – Pay is significantly low compared to others in the industry, only buyers and planners get credit for achievements, moving up is a joke--you can only go through the Executive Trainee program which takes ~15 people once a year. The work is completely boring and mindless for entry-level employees.
Advice to Senior Management – Your merchandise assistants are invaluable--pay them more and give them more credit. Continue investing your resources into omni-channel.

I worked at Belk part-time for more than 7 years
Pros – 20% discount, first look at sales and clearance items
Cons – Will not work with you on scheduling. I was part time, I have a full time job elsewhere Monday thru Friday, and was expected to work every Saturday and Sunday even though there were other people in my department wanting extra hours and were scheduled off those days. I would put in for time off well in advance and they would never process it to have me off correctly. They cut my pay $3.50 for my sales per hour going down while they had a major store remodel during that review period that the store looked horrible and we could not find anything. I worked there 5 years, I don't know how I last that long, and only about 5 people were still there when I left that were there when I started.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat your employees better and they might work harder and longer for your company

I worked at Belk full-time for more than a year
Pros – Business is very steady, and there are opportunities to make sales. The higher end stores can be very nice places to shop, and therefore, bring in nicer clientele with which to interact.
Cons – A heavy emphasis on the bottom line instead of customer service. This means you have less opportunity to build a relationship with customers. A push for more Part-time associates than full-time feels like they would rather save money on employment than hire people willing to put the customer first.

I have been working at Belk full-time for less than a year
Pros – Head of company visits all stores at some point, listens to feedback from all levels and this company tries to acknowledge its associates
Cons – Unorganized, not enough pay for amount of work done, I never leave feeling like I have done enough, unrealistic expectations on all levels, too much product and not enough space, no real direction visually. Constantly being compared to stores like Kohls when it seems like they are trying to get on the same level as Macy's.
Advice to Senior Management – Give your managers more payroll so that each store is able to accomplish all the tasks set before them. Allow managers to be managers and not glorified sales associates.

I have been working at Belk full-time
Pros – Great company to move quickly in retail towards a management position
Cons – At my current location it is tougher to adjust to different personalities because of the favoritism, but most employees are really cool
Advice to Senior Management – Tough Skin and Quick at coming up with back up solutions

I have been working at Belk part-time for less than a year
Pros – It's a great place to work at if it's your first job especially! It really teaches you how to work at a fast pace, work as part of a team, and looks great on your resume. I'm also a full time student so they do well with working around my school hours. I was first hired on as a seasonal associate but was hired on as a permanent part-time employee. It really depends on what department you are assigned to that decides how much of a workload you will recieve. For example, womens is probably the most difficult. The starting pay was also over min. wage.
Cons – The pay raises aren't that spectacular and you usually are given duties that the managers were supposed to do.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
