    Pros

Friendly associates, and get to know customers like family good employee discount and a nice 401k and insurance plans

    Cons

Not much room for advancement unless you are hand picked by the store manager to be an ASM. I was in the same position in the same department for 9 years. Was never able to go farther. It felt sometimes like I was in high school again with the popular kids and the unpopular kids

    Advice to Management

    Treat all associates the same

    Pros

I loved working as a Operation Team Associate in that store. It was a "behind the scenes" kind of retail experience from unloading trucks with boxes and then unwrapping merchandise then putting it on racks also sensoring (security) tagging, the expensive items then bringing it out to the floor for customers to enjoy in their proper departments. I love working with people, it was hard work but I enjoyed it overall. All the employees and personnel were very helpful and nice even the customers seemed to enjoy me when i was on the floor working. Some recommended me by name and only wanted me to help them. It was an amazing experience.

    Cons

The pay is just above min. wage.I have two degrees and deserve better than that . But at the time, I needed the work and put in some long hours to meet me needs.

    Advice to Management

Let me do the job you hired me for to the best that I can, if I need help, I'll ask for it, if I need training, tell me I'll get it done. I'm willing to work, listen, learn, train, and teach if needed. I'm a people person and a hard worker.

    Pros

There is a spirit of family and inclusion at Belk unlike most other department stores.

Scheduling can be an issue. Sometimes there is not enough floor coverage which can lead to frustration both for customers and employees.

    Pros

A great company who cares about its employees and encourages success. They offered competitive benefits and pay. Leadership had a good vision and outlook on the retail environment.

    Cons

More clarity around career advancement, as well as overall communications to its employees. Overall, working for a company like Belk was a great experience and allowed me to grow professionally.

    Advice to Management

Keep your employees engaged, and listen to them. They are the eyes and ears of the company, and will give you insights that may not have previously been apparent.

    Pros

Good insurance, wide variety of people, very diverse workplace

    Cons

There is a serious disconnect between Upper management and store level employees. Also, if you get injured, they will immediately begin a campaign to ruin your reputation, slander your professional name, and attempt to deny coverage.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your store employees. Show concern when someone is injured. Live up to your responsibilities.
