I worked at Belkin full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great exposure to many areas of the organization. Due to over employment you simply have to know how to wear many hats if you wish to execute.

    Cons

No loyalty to their employees, period. Understandably if one is putting the company on the blocks and trying to put lipstick on the proverbial pig by reducing your fixed costs, that might be the right short term move, but did Chet ever think how that effects peoples lives. How many of the employees that really built the company are still there and are anything less than embarrassed to have worked there.

The nepotism has no end. If you are one the royal family either direct or indirect you need not worry about layoffs, pay cuts, or anything at all really. You need not even produce, they'll make up a job for you that is a meaningless waste of time and all applaud your spinning in circles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show some leadership by being honest. I know its tough, but rather than spending so much energy hiding behind your true intentions, put it out in the open. Admit your faults and move on and make it a better place to work. If you are fortunate enough to sell the business, the buyer is going to look at the team, the roadmap and what tomorrow will bring, not just a pretty balance sheet that is not sustainable.

I worked at Belkin full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits, salary, and headquarters are pretty great. And there are some really nice people here.

    Cons

Bloated bureaucracy, lack of strategy, nepotism. Corporate politics are a poison at any large company, but Belkin's are at a level that keeps teams from advancing new ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting sales teams and product managers dictate product/brand strategies.

I have been working at Belkin as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Belkin's campus in Playa Vista is a beautiful place to work and there is no shortage of interesting projects to work on.

    Cons

Belkin's corrosive company culture is eating whatever strategy it supposedly has for breakfast; individual agendas constantly compete against group goals and often win. As a result team work is difficult to sustain and it becomes difficult to achieve business objectives. Meanwhile management experiences high level of attrition, creating constantly shifting priorities for employees and making it difficult to complete projects. Additionally, the company is severely understaffed considering its lofty objectives yet it has gone through two major layoffs in the last 6 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to wise up, listen and incorporate employee feedback into their strategy/objectives, otherwise there will continue to be a disconnect between what management wants done and what is realistically feasible. Management needs to boost morale by making them feel valued--as it is they are super cheap with their employees.

Dysfunctional Company with Incompetent management, long hours, terrible politics, bad hire and company system

Former Employee - Product Manager in Playa Vista, CA
Former Employee - Product Manager in Playa Vista, CA

I worked at Belkin full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

just the office space and building and the park in front of the office

    Cons

Incompetent management - yes, this includes the directors. Wish I could name a few but if you have any self concise, you would know im talking about you! Management doesnt listen to the right people and continue doing restructure every quarter to something they think might work. Obviously they don't know what they are doing and running the place like some experimental science homework.

Long hour - you dont have a life working here. Early morning con call and late night concall. The workload is unreasonable.

Terrible politics - directors only listened to the people they like, not who are competent and experienced. Talkers got all the attention and care. If you want to work at this place, all you need to do is talk well and play positivity faking as a team player. Hard work doesn't get you anywhere at this company.

Bad hire - directors like to hire bunch of college recent graduates with 0 professional working experience who think they know everything already. These people also think they deserve higher compensation while the fact is they should feel lucky to even have a job with their "skill set". If they have worked at any other smaller companies, they would know that for their skill set, they are already over compensated!

Bad company system - the system is not user friendly and the management is out of touch of the day to day operation. Amazingly the company is still in business. Enough said.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the management have listened to the right advice, the company wouldn't be in todays condition. You can continue doing what you are doing now and just see how it will turn out in the next few years.

You will need lots of luck to turn the company around ;) i meant pure luck, because you are not listening and using the right people and you never will.

Faking the rating on this site and cutting the dish washer people wouldn't help the company's financial ;)

I have been working at Belkin full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Great market position in consumer networking with combination of Linksys & Belkin brands.
    * Excellent opportunity for growth by combining home automation product line (WeMo), with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi remote home network management.
    * Good compensation (joined through an acquisition, pleased they matched market rate, like large corps.)
    * Good benefits: health insurance, 4 weeks of PTO, etc.
    * Nice people, friendly and respectful co-workers; minimal jerk factor.
    * Attractive workplace facilities in Seattle and CA, good HW and SW tools provided to get the job done.
    * Virtually no debt, a private company with maximum flexibility for partnerships, acquisitions, IPO potential.

    Cons

    * 401k investment options are mediocre.
    * Excessive outsourcing lengthens development life cycles.
    * Aggressive schedules and product line-ups can setup projects for failure.
    * High turnover; we lose a lot of good employees and their expertise goes with them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on the cables and case of yesteryear, and more on the automation, networking, analytics, and power management of tomorrow.

Trust the experts that work for you. Free up teams to take initiative and make decisions on the building new products.. They were successful and innovative at Cisco, and can be the same here. Leverage Program Management to drive internal development projects, instead of Product Development Management more accustomed to ODM process.

Provide incentive to stay and grow with Belkin (stock options, vesting, etc.)
