Pros
An awesome brand with national presence. Everyone knows Bell. Investments into technology both customer facing and internal. Employees are for the most part willing to help other employees.
Cons
Very large bureacratic organizaiton which is slow to change. An organization with 130 years of culture and process which can be daunting to change in the short term.
Pros
I have worked in this company for 30 plus years.
The opportunities within Bell Canada are outstanding.
If you are motivated and willing to move onto new Horizons if things aren't working out for you, you can move into to almost any position your heart and imagination desires.
George Cope and team provide confidence in the employees that they are part of the big ship and they can't do it without them.
If you have drive, imagination and determination you will be rewarded within Bell Canada.
Cons
Certain parts of the company are still run with a Monopoly mind set.
The company is bogged down with Unionized technical people that have long tenure and are holding onto to collect their pension.
On the unionized side, new technical imaginative blood is required to assist in moving the company forward.
Middle management is still slow at making decisions and often wait for direction from above.
The review process is required corporately, but seldom assists in employee development.
Advice to Senior Management
There are many people within Bell that feel burnt by tough decisions that the executive have been forced to make to keep the company competitive. Talk more to the front line employees at a tier E, D and C level. Get them to buy in to your vision! It will pay off in spades.
Pros
Secure, Great Benefits, Excellent company recognition
Cons
Large Company, Mainland Centric, difficult to get recognized
Pros
Possibility of learning a lot. Working with a lot of other teams to learn other aspects of business.
Cons
Hard to move up within the company
Advice to Senior Management
Need a lot of streamlining, need to appreciate its employees.
Pros
I would have to say that the only benefit is work/life balance. They are very good at giving time off for personal reasons and generous with teleworking opportunities.
Cons
Where to start??? Despite transparency being one of the "key" behavioural elements that the execs are supposed ot display, they are only transparent with things that show well for the company. I have been there for over 10 yrs and someone they just hired off of the street for the same job I do on teh same team I am on is being paid almost 10% more than I am. HR policies & procedures are brutal and brutally implemented. I could keep going but will stop now. :-)
Advice to Senior Management
I cannot deny that the leadership is doing the right thing for the shareholders. Internally changes and direction are often sold as the right thing for customers but many of us see it differently. My advice is that if you are going to claim that transparency if a key behaviour then live up to it.
Pros
good pay and employee discounts
Cons
you are treated as a number
Pros
Worked with good co workers
Cons
uncertainty about job due to a consistent layoff culture.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more women and minority in position of leadership and on the board of directors.
Pros
good benefits, and structured shifts, pay vacations etc
Cons
you will not be promoted even if you exceed ALL the targets. you will only be promoted if you know someone high up ...
Advice to Senior Management
open your eyes
Pros
They have a good benefit package. The have good people with lots of knowledge. They have a very nice campus location in the West.
Cons
I have invested many years with Bell with the hopes that the Executive would form direction. It hasn't happened. The West seems to be lost in the dynamics of the East. The Western leadership team have no direction. The leadership team makes it difficult for us to stay at Bell. Attrition is high.
Advice to Senior Management
The Eastern Leadership Team need to investigate the leadership being demonstrated in the West. The director level is weak in ALL aspects.
Pros
Good for entry level learning.
Cons
Limited opportunities beyond the first few years.
Limited training opportunities.
