AT&T, formerly BellSouth was a good place to work

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at BellSouth

ProsLearning from others; Ability to grow and move about departs; Vacation and Time off was flexible; Ability to work from Home

ConsBellSouth was acquired by AT&T while I was employed there and the transition was not very smooth.

So sad, it's a thing of the past

Senior Director (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at BellSouth

ProsGreat benefits, congenial atmosphere, interesting issues to work on. Benefits are amazing, and you can retire in your early 50s quite nicely if you make a career there. If you get high enough, you can have a great work-life balance, and they encourage civic involvement on company time.

ConsAdvancement is more a matter of having an easygoing personality and avoiding conflict as it iis based on capability. If you point out problems and try to tackle them, you will be seen as a troublemaker. It's good for someone who doesn't want to put too much of themselves into their work.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend your merger bonuses well and enjoy. IIt's a shame we had to be the ones eaten instead of the ones doing the eating, but our failed IPTV strategy and inability to get new products out the door sealed that fate.

The new at&t

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Miami, FL

I have been working at BellSouth

ProsThe compensation, benefits, work environment, and the ability to work in any depatment in the organization at any location globally. They will train you to do any jobs in the company. The current CEO started as a technician in the field and worked his way up to CEO.

ConsThere is no flexibility in scheduling. Bellsouth/Att does not care about you going to school, family, or immediate health. They want you to be at work everyday, with 12 hours of overtime weekly, and work 6 days a week if they can convience you to do so. No matter how valuable you really are, they will fire you or downsize a complete department without hesitation.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to what employees are saying and try to help employees cope with difficult situations, even if you cannot change the situation. Do not act like every change is always good change.

Great Company.

Senior Technical Writer (Former Employee)

I worked at BellSouth

ProsCompetitive Compensation; Climate of teamwork; The company provides lots of technical training and there are opportunities to advance your career.

ConsCulture was still 20th century in many ways, however, progress is being made. Now that the company is owned by AT&T, the work place is not as people friendly and has more of a "big government" feel.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter communication between upper management and employees needs improvement. Also, working to create more team building and off site employee events would improve morale.
