    Pros

Decent benefits, lots of structure (which can also be a con).

    Cons

Not convinced that the company values employees as much as they claim they do, too strict with job pay ranges.

    Pros

Atmosphere is friendly. Rate of pay is okay. Opportunity to advance if you play the game their way. Occasionally proactive to situations.

    Cons

Management has HUGE problems communicating effectively or accurately to their employees or perspective (contract) employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to tell the truth and not WALK on your employees. Remember you came from somewhere.

I worked at Bemis full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There was no need to worry about advancement. All high level positons were filled by those from the outside.

    Cons

Unless you are in the Fox River Valley, you have little chance to advance. At the plant level, outsiders were constantly brought in to take higher level positions.

    I worked at Bemis

    Pros

First, the company is very important in the surrounding towns: it's a big employer locally, and the owners (the Howard Family) make a lot of local investments and coordinate a lot of volunteer work. The benefits include access to a small onsite gym, family healthplan with no premium, and a pension plan in addtion to a 401K plan.

    Cons

If you've come from a larger corporate environment, you may be disappointed. The management is rather amateurish. My impression is that the current generation of family ownership is very civic minded, but lacks business experience. Middle-management especially is homegrown and very week. This could be an opportunity if you have a background in modern, metrics based management...you would be bringing religion to the wilderness here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although it's worked well for you so far, you may be left behind unless you embrace modern management techniques. Senior-management would especially benefit from some more seasoned hands.

I worked at Bemis full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Many responsibilities to manage such as software updates, testing, identifying improvements for business sectors, developing changes per customer requirements, second level help desk support, supporting the internal customers when problems or bugs were uncovered, travel, and much more.

    Cons

Top-heavy management, changes direction with the wind, continues to change the tires on the bus as it tries to drive down the road. No loyalty to the employee, failed to pay minimum pay rate for job description, pays less than industry standard, no matter how many hours or how much was accomplished, little positive feedback. Not supportive for employees over 40 years of age. Recent employee restructuring eliminated many over 40 professionals while still offering work for the same positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Insist on rate of pay before starting or don't expect to make the minimum through once a year pay raises (April 1). Negotiate vacation time. Keep an updated resume.

I worked at Bemis full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good. Parking is good. Lots of places to go if you need to get away for lunch (if you are allowed).

    Cons

No advancement for someone who isn't related to someone already in an advanced position or if you don't have a mechanical engineering degree. HR is a joke. If you have any issues they will not be handled appropriately or quietly. Management is slow to praise but very quick to pass the buck as well as the blame. Many managers can't manage and instead of being let go or demoted they are promoted or moved to manage a different angle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step out of your comfort zone and let go those you know can't manage. Embrace those who are true leaders and have great knowledge. Respect those below you and respond to their innovation, as you claim the company is based on innovation. Remember your hourly employees sacrifice a lot with the swing shifts they work.
