Pros
Great benefits including pretty awesome travel discounts to their properties. Management is pretty relaxed and flexible about taking time off. Pay was extremely competitive.
Cons
No set schedule. Limited training opportunities. Planners and management can be distant at times. No overtime. Small inventory and budget for equipment. The harder I worked, the fewer technical opportunities were given. It got tiring to keep up with the demands of daily setups with the frustration of knowing they need my technical background but want a hard worker more.
Advice to Senior Management
If you're going to give performance reviews, follow up on your key areas so that we can both improve. When an employee shows an interest in growing with a company, reward that with professional growth, not empty promises.
Pros
My personal experience was that the company was always trying to improve their sales and marketing effort to stay out in front.
Cons
Lack of consistency with marketing since each of the properties is independently owned and operated. Sometimes inconsistent product.
Pros
I feel that Benchmark cares about their employees and does a great job letting them know that. The company is growing in a bad economy which shows stability, which in turn gives us employees opportunity for growth.
Cons
Please open more properties in my state as I can't move out-of-state.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue providing positive feedback.
Pros
Free Food, they offered employee meals
Talented Chef, really knew about food and plate design
ok benefits, not the best
Cons
Managers never helped with complaints
the raises were only .25 cents. Once a year.
Lower management didn't know what they were doing
Advice to Senior Management
Make the chef be more interactive with kitchen staff. We didn't have any standard recipes so everyone made different sauces and management didn't care.
Pros
Benchmark is a company with good employees on the ground. they have very good hotels and good dymanic everywere.
Cons
Needs to COMMUNICATE BETTER after they listen to what the employee on the ground have to say.If a company is built on good employees not every idea or direction has to come from texas.
Advice to Senior Management
Let your employees have a voice take everything they say into consideration. follow up with that person so that they feel like thier voice is being herd give the managers on the ground the freedom to manage nothing will ever get accomplish if you keep putting them in a corner
Pros
Benchmark is a company that believes in the individual worth of each employee and and follows-through on their commitments.
Benchmark dares us to do things differently and to take risks which only reinforces the value they place in all employees.
Employee recognition - While the economy has been brutal to the hospitality industry Benchmark continues to do the "little things" to show their appreciation to all employees.
Cons
Need to be more open with communication (even when the news isn't great).
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to reinforce the Benchmark Core Values. Don't change who we are.
Pros
laid back atmosphere. beautiful setting.
Cons
policies and standards continually change and not receiving neccessary information and tools to successfully and professionally carryout jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
your employees are expiriencing very low morale.
Pros
Having worked for two different Benchmark properties (two years apart), I can say that as a whole they have good people working for them. While my ultimate fate was not what I had hoped for (position eliminated), I like the company very much. The two properties I worked for were very different. The culture was not quite the same as a result. In the end, I was a line item before I was a human being (who was knowledgeable and did their job well). :-/
Cons
Some of the properties are not financially stable, therefore job security can be an issue. I will note that this is probably not an issue in a stable economic environment.
Advice to Senior Management
I would have felt better had my layoff been handled more compassionately.
Pros
Benchmark is a very Reputable Company. Also, there is much room to work your way up through the company regardless of your starting point. My manager (Guest Services Manager) was the best on property, and did a lot with the budget he was given. The people are probably the best reason though. At Bedford Springs, we would all hang out off the clock as well. It made for a great working environment, because you were working with friends. You can stay at other Benchmark properties for cheap too.
Cons
At Bedford Springs anyway, we are understaffed. The housekeeping staff is very understaffed, overworked, and underpaid. There are some pointless policies that are implemented for no reason other than to remind you that your 'director' can do what he wants and you can't. The hours suck sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop selling rooms so cheap, and start turning some profit. There is a difference between promoting something and bad business. Burt is a great example of Benchmark.
