Pros
Great opportunities to prove yourself and grow within the company. Supportive network of people and all the skills you need to get the job done are in the company around you. The company is also very good at recognizing the balance between work and the real world. They sponsor activities such as softball teams, birthday lunches, and random happy hours to keep the morale up and help the office to bond in a positive way. They also are usually pretty flexibile if activities come up that need to take you away from work, as long as you're going to get your job done.
Cons
There are no downsides to working at Benfield that immediately come to mind. If you accept a job on the broker side, you likely understand that you will need to travel occassionally. Additionally, it is not a 9 to 5 kind of job, and you are usually expected to work until the job is completed. Sometimes you end up staying very late into the night, but on other days everyone goes home early to make up for it. With a relatively small company, when you do domething, you are generally seen for it, either positively or negatively. The only other thing to be aware of is that there can be a degree of nepotism, though that seems to be pervasive throughout the insurance industry.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the information flowing and keep providing opportunities for rotational programs for development.
Pros
Benefits and professional advancement are key initiatives of the company. Training is very involved and you will learn a lot of information in a short period of time.
Cons
Long hours during renewal periods. You must put in your dues to get ahead.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to learn new technology better
Pros
It is a flexible, challenging, and rewarding work environment. It affords a work environment that must simultaneously deal with local/micro and global/macro issues. The company has great management and is on the cutting edge of technology. They provide incredible opportunities for additional training, experience, and job growth.
Cons
The job can be demanding, so staying late can be common and unexpected. Also, the fall/winter is a very busy time of year, so Christmas vacations are usually short.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to focus on technology and providing opportunties for employees. However, I think they are already doing that. The management is doing a great job overall.
