    Pros

Wonderful Peers to work with and overall a great company to work for. You will get a ton of experience in anything you want and if you actually do the job you are tasked with it can be very rewarding.

Also the company does have a great time off package should you be able to use it. Summer hours are a great bonus.

Get to know David Quilleon, probably one of the best men you will ever meet. Hopefully is still with the company.

    Cons

Work-Life balance-between fundraising and school management and general networking you may as well buckle in for a 80 hour work week.

Promotions can be few and far between if you want to advance upward. You seem to have a better chance if you network well with others at the Headquarters in Miami. Often the best people get passed over and leave right away.

Be wary of burnout as it can happen should you take the job seriously.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HQ leadership is a mess outside of David Quilleon. This is probably due to the amount of work that everyone does in Miami.

Mixed messages happen all the time; communication from HQ is poor to put it kindly.

    Pleasant but simple work environment

I worked at Best Buddies International as an intern

    Pros

Friendly co-workers and most people are really nice. Many people care about the mission of Best Buddies

    Cons

The work as an intern is very straightforward and are not challenging. I am sure that if one stays on that the pays is probably not so good.

  6.

A good mission that can have a great social impact and teach people how to be less judgemental and more accepting.

    Pros

Many good staff at the field level.

    Cons

The organization's top staff person has founders syndrom and can improve his emotional intellegence. As a result, the organization has a stunted growth potential. Constructive communication is stiffled out of fear of repercussion from leadership. There is very little volunteer leadership in the organization, which uses precious staff time from around the country to do volunteer tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove AKS from micromanaging tasks that should be left for the experts. A lack of trust of community based leadership precipitates slow and unstable growth. Community engagement provides innovation, local leadership and program sustainablity even with high staff turnover. The culture destroys the opportunity for successful implementation of strategy.

    Pros

Many opportunities to grow. The ability to give feedback and see changes implemented. Fantastic benefits and meaningful mission. The leadership team is down to earth and approachable and the founder and chairman makes himself available to anyone who wants or needs to speak with him. One of a kind organization!

    Cons

Not enough opportunities for Program Managers to stay once they reach 3 years of employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working together on behalf of the mission.

    Pros

This organization works towards a great cause and keeps its mission in mind. They offer great support to many programs and have great events.

    Cons

BBI is a non-profit that sometimes experiences the bottlenecks and frustration that occurs within a non-profit environment. Positions could be paid more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Streamline the system.

    Pros

Getting to know the participants and be involved in the programs and events. Being apart of a larger advocacy community working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

    Cons

HQ is often too focused on fundraising and special events not giving enough energy to program development and evaluation. Fundraising staff do not have enough interaction or knowledge of the programs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before focusing on expansion really work on evaluating your model to make it replicable and scalable.

    Pros

Great health benefits and training opportunities. Programs departments are great places to work.

    Cons

Development departments and upper management treat lower level employees like work horses and will not train you into becoming a full member of the staff. Do not expect much assistance in moving upward in this department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest your time into your support staff and they will shine.
