Pros
Best buy is a great place for work. Good for young careers to begin. You can learn lots about sales, support and electronics from this experience.
Cons
The senior mgmt is great, but the supervisors have a tendency to have more power than necessary and can become a little greedy.
Advice to Senior Management
Providing the employee is worth it, promotions within a store are nearly impossible, for new positions you have to constantly move to new locations.
Pros
Learn how to connect with people.
Always up to date with new technology
Cons
At times, some supervisors were power-happy.
Advice to Senior Management
When I worked at Best Buy I was still young (in high school). I sometimes felt that since I was younger than other workers that my abilities were doubted. I felt that I can do anything I set my mind to, but since my superiors seemed to doubt me, I was not encouraged.
Pros
Very fun work environment, learned about many products
Cons
Takes long to clean up the store
Advice to Senior Management
I thought it was fine the way it is, not exceptional but fine for a high school job.
Pros
Love it!
The hours they are open and closed, except the holidays.
they provide extensive training on product and services knowledge
Cons
In some instances I feel like the GSBTP is a rip off.
Working at customer service you realize how dumb consumers really are.
I feel that too many of the products we carry are inferior and crap. but hey we sell a sevice incase it breaks or you break it.
they took away the 90 day raise if you make it pass probation. changes to one year.
Advice to Senior Management
There needs to be more elearnings on the cs2 position. kudos on changing the OMS system to one program. I've been there 4 months, promoted, and i'm already burned out and i only work part time.
Pros
Best Buy gives you the feeling of empowerment to succeed in your own life. It is different from most sales jobs in the fact that you do not work on commission and growth opportunities are available.
Cons
Sometimes management can be thick-headed and not understand that people have lives outside of work. It would be nice if associates weren't as pressured to meet sales goals when we already know how to make the company profits.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow us to follow our own protocol. We ARE the company and don't need the constant reminders on how we are or are not living up to "numbers" for the day. You want us to build relationships with our customers. That is great. Let us work on OUR pace. We will make you money like we always have.
Pros
The employee discount is great and they are really good about working with your schedule. I went to school at the same time and never had a problem.
Cons
I never liked wearing the uniform that is required of all employees. Other than that, I don't have many complaints.
Advice to Senior Management
I don't know what advice I would give to management. Perhaps to ask employees more about their potential ideas that might help the company.
Pros
It is a great place to work and has been fun. The benefits are great, and there is plenty of career growth opportunity. The people I work with have all been wonderful, and management is more than willing to help their employees advance as far as they want to.
Cons
Since Best Buy is a retail store, you have to deal with retail hours, which are not always the best for family life. In addition, time off always needs to be requested far in advance if you really want the time off. It is hard to get time off for last minute things that come up.
Advice to Senior Management
I have been fully satisfied with the senior management thus far, so I do not have any feedback for them other than they are doing a great job.
Pros
Discount and training and overall focus
Cons
Large Company and too many managers
Advice to Senior Management
Chill Out
Pros
Discount, and not much else
Cons
Management (depending on your store) will walk all over you if you aren't one of their "outside of work" friends..
Advice to Senior Management
Sales Operators don't have a lot of responsibilities, and we understand that, but don't treat us like we are seasonal cashiers!
Pros
Good employee discount, you get to work with a variety of consumer electronics, management team is helpful and fun to work with when they are available. Best Buy is constantly changing to keep up with the latest consumer electronics so you have to constantly be on top of your game whether you are selling TVs, computers, or vacuum cleaners. In the Geek Squad precinct you get to work with some cutting edge automation tools to diagnose and fix client computers. You get a warm fuzzy feeling when you help out that panicky college student retrieve his or her data and he/she thanks you over and over again. You also get a good feeling when you are able to fix someone's problem in less than 5 minutes.
Cons
Inconsistency between stores, attitudes of employees, lots of high school graduate goof offs running customer service, understaffed at times. Occasionally rude or obnoxious customers. In the Geek Squad precinct you are overwhelmed with doing cumbersome time-consuming pre setups on 40% of the laptops that come off the truck, and of that 40% about half those units will end up getting restored to factory settings because the customer doesn't want to pay $129 for a year of Anti-virus protection or $39 for an optimized computer. So there is a lot of wasted time spent setting up laptops which the PCHO department will likely not sell. Also the GS agents are pulled off of PC repair to ring up sales. This is usually not a big deal except on weekends and days when the store is very busy and there is no time to do the actual PC repair, the GS CIAs are basically cashiers with ties. Understaffing is a major problem on these days. The employees who work behind the customer service desk are usually right out of high school and pay little attention to detail and the CIAs have to deal with a lot of their lack of knowledge. They are usually busy playing games or gossiping amongst each other rather than trying to improve the work environment or help clean up.
Advice to Senior Management
Do a better job soliciting feedback from hourly staff, have more frequent face to face meetings with hourly employees to help them understand their jobs and goals better
