Pros
flexibility of working hours and culture
Cons
Pay is relatively decent but could be better
Advice to Senior Management
less rigid
Pros
It is probably the best job for a student in high school because it pays well and it does not involve any manual labor. If you are not planning on attending college, or want to dedicate your time more to work than to school they provide pretty good career opportunities to move up in the company. You will be rewared for working hard, but you also need to make sure to let others now that you are noticed. Also, if you are into electronic and purchase them frequently the employee discount is very much worth it, particularly on things like televisions and any accessory you can imagine.
Cons
The customers will expect too much, or they will want that really cheap item in the ad so you just have to deal with that. It is mostly just that the store is either dead or swarmed, and there are very few days where it is perfectly balanced so you just have one customer to deal with. In addition, if you speak two languages in a multilingual area, you will be exploited by management for no additional compensation to sell to people who not only speak your language but similar lanuages as well. There should be more money provided fo such skills.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time picking appropriate people for leadership instead of promoting friends.
Pros
For the discount obviously and to build up a little resume to get the entry level portion out of my hairs.
Cons
Working @ bestbuy you have to be in a certain "click" AKA group and suck up to the managers to get promotions or the managers bring in their friends from other places and give them the job. Then they give them what they think they should be payed. working @ bestbuy for a year you see alot of boshit/politics. I understand politics are going to be everywhere but they are extremely severe @ bestbuy
Advice to Senior Management
If i had to be blatant and give true feedback and sum it all up really quick... i'd say you're incompetence will only get you so far in life...I understand bestbuy is your life and you wont have a better job, so you need to stop being so miserable and realize your stuck unless you do special kickbacks. Your lack of support to your underlings is terrible also... this is what i mean about favoritism...idiots get put in leadership spots.
Pros
Employee discounts. Interacting with people.
Cons
Can be boring. Awful holiday hours.
Advice to Senior Management
You don't know everything, don't pretend like you do.
Pros
Employee Discount is absolutely amazing
Cons
Tough to get hours off, expect a lot without paying employees a lot, some managers I have had are horrible,
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees like people and not like a tool to generate profit.
Pros
The employee discount keeps most of us around, they are helpful when you have a family event or emergency. Some of the managers are down to earth and treat you as a equal, Find a good store to work for they are differant go and visit them and ask the employees how they like it if they seem happy most likely you will be too. Its not the worst place to work but they could take steps to make things alot better
Cons
No hours, under trained, no praise, overall management is horrible. All they focus on is numbers forget about the client they just want us to get there money
Advice to Senior Management
Get off your high horse your working in a retail store not for NASA
Pros
Employee discount is awesome. You get good health and wealth benefits. A majority of the time you have a lo t of fun. If your in high school or college its a fun environment because you are working with a lot of people your own age. From what I have seen, the management team determines how good or bad or fun the store is. Many stores do after hours store events to have fun and help commeraderie. My store has done bowling nights, wiffleball tournaments, game nights, but like I said, the management plays a big part in how much you enjoy your time thier.
Cons
There are some big downsides to working hear. One thing is promotions. A lot of times favoritism comes into play and the best person does not always get the job. Also, a few years ago many companies would only promote men, well now it seems like Best Buy is making up for the entire work community's mistake because of the last 5 positions that people applied for, four times an under qualified women got the position, so it can create some resentment in the work place and that can lead to you hating working there. Other than that, there are just the small things that any workplace has to deal with.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat the people who are selling on the floor better because we make your money and we get your bonuses for you. You don't inspire us when you walk around doing nothing with your clipboards reading numbers, it would be more inspiring if we saw you go do a code one.
Pros
The benefits, and the knowledge you can get if you actually take the time to use the e-learnings the company provides. If you get a store that really follows the overall community sense of the company, you will also gain some new "family" and friends. Most stores I've worked in have been very close knit.
Cons
Due to the age differences and natures of different jobs, it sometimes can be like a "high school," where some co-workers just want to gossip and torment others. Also, managers can easily pick favorites, and make things harder for others. Plus, some managers who just care about money will be more likely to try and force the workers to adhere to unethical business practices, such as overcharging customers for service up front and not wanting to partially refund them if part of that service could not be performed.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember what it was like when you were a lower-level employee, think back to your management, and then realize when you are falling into the patterns the ones you hated were like. The best seniors, supervisors, and managers I've encountered have been the ones who do still remember that, and treat the lower-level employees as equals.
