I have been working at Best Buy Canada full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Employee Discount Fair Compensation ( although this has probably changed since the bestbuy rebrand) Relatively Easy to work your way up in the company Great benefits

    Cons

job security non regular work week and hours that's about it.

    Advice to Management

most of this will or has changed since my employment. there was constant restructuring and Cuts while i was working there in the later years of my employment, everyone working there was on edge between 2013-2015

    Pros

-Great part time job compared to fast food -Be surrounded by electronics and gadgets all day -Can move up if retail is an environment of interest - many opportunities.

    Cons

-Pressure from management -IF one is a great salesperson, pay and compensation is not worth it. -When customers are upset can be a toxic environment, especially if management is not supportive -Seems like there was a lot of turnover even of management. -Favoritism and minimum availability was very high (have to be available for 5 shifts, a shift was open to 5 or 5 to close).

    Advice to Management

Management and company needs to figure out what they want: customer "centricity" (like your value) or bottom line. You cannot cut staff hours and zoning, and expect "complete solutions" without sacrificing customer service for all the other staff there. Also, please stop firing managers - it is horrible for morale. Lastly, and this is a MAJOR one: Do you want high school kids, or college students who want a part time job? It was almost impossible to juggle a proper social academic life (college organizations etc.) while needing to be available (not necessarily worked) 5 available shifts at open to 5 and 5 to close, that is sizable for a student who needs to commute. That's why you always had terrible staff.

I worked at Best Buy Canada part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The staff and managers are really friendly. The job is not too difficult; you just need to know about cellphones and cellular plans. Having irate customers are rare.

    Cons

There are not too many customers during the morning shift. It can get a little too quite and boring therefore time passes slowly.

    Advice to Management

The management is really nice and the same goes for the staff. One point that they could manage better would be the shift scheduling. The schedule gets posted really late in the week so the staff is left wondering when they work for the better part of the week. Not a huge deal, but quicker posting of the schedule would convenient for the staff.

    Pros

They match RRSP contributions dollar for dollar.

    Cons

They continue to close down stores and let people go. Even when they arent closing stores, the turnover ratio is far too high, even for retail.

    Advice to Management

Go back to basics and remember the ideas that made Best Buy succeed years ago.

    Pros

Great foot in the door experience with technology and telecommunications

    Cons

Employee wages starts off attractively, but raises are minimal. For mobile sales, wages are way below industry standard since there is no commission

I worked at Best Buy Canada part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really good coworkers and the staff discount is pretty awesome. If you spin it right this place can look really good on a resume.

    Cons

Really bad favoritism from management. They promote people who suck up to them and dont do a good job of retaining and fostering talent. Scheduling is terrible and they release it really late. Management tells you to push warranties and geek squad services onto people without any incentive for yourself. Hours are difficult to come by if your PT

    Advice to Management

Retain your talent better and stop promoting based on who you like the most. When you promise your employees hours make sure to actually follow through with it

I have been working at Best Buy Canada part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at Best-buy you definitely gain experience with interacting customers and learning about latest technology and gadgets. Co-workers and management are a plus to working and the discount is pretty decent

    Cons

Best buy's goals to push service plans and warranties place too much stress on employees to perform at a high level with little to no reward.

    Advice to Management

Find an alternate way to let employees succeed in pushing best buy goals and ideals.
