Easy to get a job, easy to keep the job. Can get some really good deals if your good friends with the manager.

Very boring, no point in working hard because you and the guy working hard are at the same spot at the end of the day.

-Overall relaxed environment to work in. Downtime can be spent on computers, conversing, texting etc., as long as your department numbers are up to par (this can depend on location)
-Very good discounts
-Somewhat flexible hours (more so if FT), although expect to work entire weekends
-Free food and prizes (laptops, tablets) at monthly meetings
-Hourly wage is decent if this is your first or second job
-Growth within company

-Employee experience can be wildly different depending on the management within the store
-Although non-commission, you are expected to hit targets and budgets as if you were
-HEAVY favoritism. Be prepared to get on management's good side. You can be treated very well to complete garbage depending on how close you are with management
-Shady firings that seemed more of a result of personal grudge.
-New uniform makes you feel like you work at McDonald's
-Mandatory monthly meetings in which you talk about the next month's goals and how to reach them (which recycle annually), as well as watching seminars disguised as pseudo-comedies
-LOTS of acronyms to memorize
-morning "cheers"
-Raises leave much to be desired
Advice to Senior Management
Bending rules to give yourselves an upper hand, then using said advantage to "weed out" employees is a slap in the face to HR (again this could mostly be isolated incidents. Largely, job security is excellent given you weren't hired seasonal). However, management for the most part is fair and accommodating, as long as you do what is expected.

I worked for FS at the Headquarters in Burnaby in the Merchandising Group and it is the WORST job I've had by far. Where to start...
1. Most managers are old time sales people with no education and no degree (some didn't even finish high school). They can't give you any professional feedback to develop so you won't grow at all
2. The job is boring, repetitive and you don't learn anything at all. Most jobs are not far from being a glorified data entry clerk
3. The pay is sub par and terrible benefits. They give employees 3 year old 1G of RAM laptops! My niece who is 10 doesn't even use 1G of RAM to play games and yet we're expected to work on those laptops?
4. The ass kissing here in unbelievable. It's all about who you brown nose. Multiple smart, capable people leave in droves, leaving a herd of incompetent people working here
6. Most people work here and always look for something better. That's why they always have Merchandising Analyst/Merchandising Manager positions open. The turn over is REALLY high. I've worked with 3 Merchandising Managers in the same category for the 1 year that I was there
7. Promotions are dangled like carrots and never given out. Managers lie to your face about your potential and the "raise" every year is at 3% maximum
Overall just a cheap company. It might be OK if you just graduated from college and need a good name on your resume (a year max) but other than that avoid at ALL costs

Get real professionals not some sales clerks with no education to manage your business

service plan is almost always imposed on customers for purely "numbers" driven motive
many employees are not as knowledgable as the customer assumes

Don't force your employees to sell the service plan, make them understand why people need it and let them pitch it to people who need it.

Good Experience, Good Working atmosphere, Good store level leadership, Employee purchase plan, Understanding the employee requirement at the store level is high.

Pay scale compared to most other retailers is among the lowest in British Columbia. The job requirements in the store level is over whelming most of the time. labor turnover is very high.

The pay scale for most of the stores in British Columbia has to be revisited, its surprisingly low for the amout of work load vested on the employees.

you can learn how to communicate with people and how to sell. The most important thing you might learn is negotiation skill

Not efficient to make money. Input and output is not equal. So, as a stepping stone, bestbuy is good but not more than that

Discount (sometimes), its a very easy job and requires no brain power despite all the complaining you hear about it.

Abuse by customers, management treat you like you don't know anything, hours, shifts, they openly work HR rules to their advantage

Don't spend all your time catering to customers. Teach the staff and hold them responsible it will weed out the garbage staff and help the better ones learn the skills to get a better job.

The Benefits are great and Atmosphere is electric - long hours though so be prepared. Company seem to respect its people

the hours are long and sometimes not appreciated as much as some would like ... pressures to hit metrics is high but thats par for the course
