Pros
Lots of opportunity to grow, learn more and of course earn more as you move up.
Cons
There are times, projects, duties that will keep you in the office for more than 12 hours a day. It is very important to ensure a balance is kept in place between life and work, or you will get stuck working 11 hour days like many do at Best Buy Canada.
Advice to Senior Management
To be in touch with people of all positions and not just other leadership positions.
Pros
Great hourly wage, great people, great products. You are will informed about what goes on at the store and you receive lots of training. The benefits are also great!
Cons
If you are looking to bring your work experience from the company's retail store up to the corporate level then good luck. Even making your way up amongst management in the store can be difficult. Also, just because the job has no commission doesn't mean sales aren't a target so don't slack off.
Pros
all i can say is discounts, it an average place to to gain a retail experience but not the best
Cons
no job security, no respect.
terrible management, as a result even mangers dont have job security, wages is about average . stressful
Pros
Discount is #1 no question
Friendly co-workers
Interesting work environment
Get to look through all the new releases and so forth, so you know when to save your money.
Cons
Deadlines and expections are INSANE!
Bit too fast paced at times
Hours are ridiculous, especially based on pay
Answering more customer questions then the employees getting paid to do so
Have ideas about making the warehousing more efficient, but afriad of bringing them up for fear of loosing my job
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the BS and be upfront with what you are, another Down to earth - Profit or Profit company.
I was hired as a seasonal PP on wednesday, and Ive worked 3 consecutive early morning shifts already.
The daily meetings sound more like monthly or quaterly earnings presentations then anything
The way management pressures the employees to sell extras including service plans to customers, weither they need it or not is disgusting.
Ive had to learn most of the ropes from an employee thats been there all of 2 or 3 weeks.
Having been a loyal best buy customer, who normally went out of his way to shop there ... Not entirely sure I want to anymore, after being on the inside.
Pros
amazing cost pricing for employees
Cons
not enough compensation for the amount u sell and make for the organization
Advice to Senior Management
Give Better compensation or better wages equivlent to a person working at futureshop corrilated with sales
Pros
Some good benefits....medical and the employee discount is the best...a god working environment in general.
Cons
Even if the sellers are not on sales, you are treated as if you were by your superior....They are asking you to sell a lot of Services all the time!
Advice to Senior Management
Stop putting all the focus on Geek squad and other services numbers and start focusing better on the overall customer experience.
Pros
If you enjoy technology this is a great way to keep up on all of the latest and help people to understand it.
Cons
There is a heavy focus on sales, if you are not a good sales person this may not be the job for you
Advice to Senior Management
Doing a great job at teaching your employees about new technology and sales techniques to make them the best in the retail marketplace.
Pros
Staff discount was better than expected.
Cons
-Below average pay for the work level.
-Raises are rarely enough to cover for cost of living increases.
-Told it's a non-commissioned workplace, but sales expectations are contrary to that.
-Good if you like working with children, and like babysitting your coworkers.
-Expect to work entire weekends.
-Management doesn't encourage good work behaviour or ethics. It seems to be okay to talk and text instead of work.
-The hippy attitude and morning "cheers" are childish and better things could be achieved during that time.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop paying people minimum wage at Best Buy. It's not a minimum wage job, and shouldn't be paid like it is. If you want to keep people and encourage good work, pay people appropriately!!
Increase labour and staffing. If you're supposed to be there to help the customers, have more staff on hand. More labour means more staff, and more staff means that more customers can be helped, which means more sales and profit.
Pros
The pay was competitive compared to local companies.
Cons
Unreasonable management; kept changing procedures to be less and less effective and then blaming employees after many meetings explaining how the changes wouldn't work.
No chance at promotion.
No raises.
Advice to Senior Management
Just quit.
Pros
Best Buy has nourished a great environment of people and experiences, almost everyone from part timers to upper management is friendly and fun.
Cons
The focus on numbers can be overwhelming, as on moves up the ladder the importance of sales are paramount. Some selling practices are underhanded.
Advice to Senior Management
Budgets and ranking needs to be more customer focused and less financially. Take the example of Apple computers, customer service should be top priority instead of revenue.
