I have been working at Best Buy Canada part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Decent employee discounts on product/services
Usually have hours if you want more
    Meet amazing people
Learn a lot about products and how they work
    Continued learning through "quizzes"
Managers have a big impact on the environment of the store, good managers, good store

    Cons

Politics always being thrown around in management
Whole "No pressure" selling is complete B.S
Booking time off can be difficult especially if your store hires a lot of part time students (during exam season)
Don't seem to value part timers - seen as disposable work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the politics and start to open your eyes to keep valuable employees that do fabulous work to stay

I worked at Best Buy Canada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Somewhat flexible hours but absolutely no work/life balance. To continue working here you have to be married to your job. You can move up as long as you know how to network yourself (aka.. cozy up to the right people).

    Cons

Absolutely no direction or company vision. The company has it's hands tied and will not grow. The big box days are a thing of the past... get in, get the experience and get out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate and listen to your people. Dictatorship style management and management by fear is a thing of the past.

I have been working at Best Buy Canada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is the place to work if you're looking to gain some valuable back office experience. People are generally friendly and willing to help. There are areas to grow from Merchandising, Finance, HR, IT, etc. On-line merchandising or eCommerce business has grown exponentially.

    Cons

Retail has been hard hit of late and just coming around to profitability. As a result, there has been headcount reductions and other cutbacks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow your employees to take courses and get more training.

I have been working at Best Buy Canada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Least stressful place to work. Usually employe a younger crowd. If you work hard they will notice and promote you. Pay/raises has been better than minimum wage.

    Cons

Managers. "Delegate and disappear" I could not tell you what they do other than check numbers and answer key calls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It was better before when they had individual departments.
