Pros
amazing cost pricing for employees
Cons
not enough compensation for the amount u sell and make for the organization
Advice to Senior Management
Give Better compensation or better wages equivlent to a person working at futureshop corrilated with sales
Pros
good pay and flexible hours
good team work building
meetings help explain new products and technologies to employees
good staff discount
Cons
overly competitive
service plan is almost always imposed on customers for purely "numbers" driven motive
many employees are not as knowledgable as the customer assumes
Advice to Senior Management
Don't force your employees to sell the service plan, make them understand why people need it and let them pitch it to people who need it.
Pros
Discount (sometimes), its a very easy job and requires no brain power despite all the complaining you hear about it.
Cons
Abuse by customers, management treat you like you don't know anything, hours, shifts, they openly work HR rules to their advantage
Advice to Senior Management
Don't spend all your time catering to customers. Teach the staff and hold them responsible it will weed out the garbage staff and help the better ones learn the skills to get a better job.
Pros
The Benefits are great and Atmosphere is electric - long hours though so be prepared. Company seem to respect its people
Cons
the hours are long and sometimes not appreciated as much as some would like ... pressures to hit metrics is high but thats par for the course
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to encoruage your people to be successful
Pros
All in all, it was a good place to work, especially as a student. Manager was nice enough to give me the employee discount after just a week of working there. The people there were nice to work with and working environment was pretty lax as well.
Cons
Very disorganized. I had three different seniors/managers that would tell me to do one thing, one after the other, and would get scolded from the first manager, when he returned to see that I was not doing what he had originally told me to do. Then the second manager, then the third. Felt like no matter what you did, you were going to get criticized from somebody.
Advice to Senior Management
Define boundaries and follow those boundaries. Both you and your employees will be happier and feel less micromanaged.
Pros
employee discount is the best
Cons
too much favouritism in store
Advice to Senior Management
be fair
Pros
I like the discounts, and getting first dibs on clearance items
good part time job, enough hours compared to other retail jobs
Cons
The compensation is very low, management is not that great. I rememeber having to work an opening shif waiting on the manager
- too much work for the low pay
Advice to Senior Management
come to work on time , if you plan to come down on employees about punctuality
- pay your employees more
Pros
best buy canada is a great place to work as even though its a sales environment, managers just dun push you to get sales they also focus on customer service and they do show alot of respect towards their employees
Cons
even though its a sales area there is no concept of profit sharing or any compensation for shrink control as it provides gud harmony towards employees.
Advice to Senior Management
they should encourage fair promotions towards employees as promotion are normally based on the likeness of upper management towards any canditate
Pros
Great People, but its very political.
Cons
Mostly evening and weekends and alot of customer issues.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the people that are doing a great job at store level fairly compensated. Also schedule for managers needs altering. GM's have all days where every other AM closes.
Pros
The best reason for working at Best Buy are the people - those who fight on to do the right thing regardless of the built in obstacles, the innovative products, and the employee discount to buy those products.
Cons
Old backward Future Shop culture dirties and drags down new futuristic Best Buy vision. The efforts of highest senior management are lost in the intrigues of middle managers and a intrusive, manipulative HR group.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the dual brands but ruthlessly weed out old malignant Future Shop culture and "cave dwellers" committed only to the past and themselves and their silos. Hold people accountable, reward good performance.
