Pros
I got my job after i needed a break from the corporate world while i decided what i wanted to do. The hiring process is painless but they cut hours at the drop of a hat so don't depend on it unless you are full time.
It's a good place to work.
Cons
They chop hours randomly with no explanation.
No communication at all.
Advice to Senior Management
COMMUNICATE
Pros
Best Buy provides a workplace that is challenging, but fun. They look for everyone to contribute and respect the opinions of all.
Cons
With the cost restructuring over the past few years it has put more pressure on the remaining employees to do the work of those no longer with company.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to pursue change and believe in the strength of our business model. Customers will award us once we improve the overall experience.
Pros
Flexible with scheduling when needed
Cons
Its retail so you don't get much free time around the holidays
Pros
Heavy employee screening which means that the people you're working with are more likely to be outgoing, friendly, and perform their job requirements. There are many opportunities for growth that are built into individual reviews at least twice a year.
Cons
Not as ideal as a part-time student position, specifically during the Christmas season where an employee might get strapped with more hours to work than they would prefer.
Advice to Senior Management
Maintain a clear chain of command from management to individual employees and ensure that employees are familiar with what is expected of them. Communication was fragmented at the store that I worked at during the Christmas season and managers ended up working directly at cross purposes.
Pros
Fast pace
Able to be yourself
Cons
Sometimes hard to change things in the company
Advice to Senior Management
Get back to what made you great.
Pros
lots of opportunities to gain knowledge and work your way up the ladder.
Cons
The pay is not quite up to par compared to competitors.
Advice to Senior Management
dont just hire everyone who interviews. dig for people who are actually passionate about working there. and stay away from favoritism.
Pros
The merchandise is great. You get to see all of the new stuff coming in and also get to view it before it goes on sale!
Cons
Sometimes Management can be a little too tough on you. They have a strict policy regarding tardiness. You can lose your job just for being late twice!
Advice to Senior Management
Management should always treat employees fairly. They should also treat everyone equally. I have seen instances of favortism and letting others get by with something but not letting others
Pros
ability to find a job within the store that suits your personal passions.
Always opportunity to learn something new
Cons
work life balance is not good.
Advice to Senior Management
I think management needs to look at work life balance
Pros
The company I loved, may of my coworkers as well, I appreciated the effort they put into participating with the community and the transparency with the morning meetings. I loved the dashboard and knowing how I was contributing the the success of the store as well as the company.
Cons
Wide variation in Leadership between stores. Very much a popular game with management. You were either in or out.
Advice to Senior Management
I would have loved a program similar to what Enterprise does for developing talent from within. I was persuing advanced education as were many others, Best Buy needs to capitalize on the strength of its people and the knowledge that exists under its nose.
Pros
- You will learn a lot about sales and customer service.
- Co- Workers.
- One of the greatest electronic stores in US.
Cons
- Careers advancement options are few and not very clear.
- Crazy hours. You will need to work night and weekends.
Advice to Senior Management
They need to make it more clear to it's employees how to advance in their professional careers. What is expected from them and how do I get to the next level.
