Pros
Company cares about its associates and actively works to develop them into business leaders. A lot of advancement opportunity and training available. Very fair compensation. Company likes to stay on the forefront of technology and changes rapidly to stay ahead.
Cons
Once you are in a leadership role they will ask for an extraordinary commitment in your time. Forget taking any vacations during any holiday period and if you do not have family local to them be prepared to only see them in the summer.
Advice to Senior Management
I know that it is a tough business right now but try to find away to allow your managers to have a more balanced life outside of the stores.
Pros
Good discounts, job referral bonuses and regular bonuses.
Cons
its a retail job with limited future.

Cons

Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees more
Pros
Pay is above that of most other similar positions. The company is constantly growing which give individuals a chance for growth
Cons
absolutely zero work life balance. You are expected to sacrifice your family life in order to drive sales. Questionable ethics in how sales are achieved (over charging and "pushing" unneccessary products on consumers). Employees are treated as numbers and are easily replaceable with no regard for their families.
Advice to Senior Management
Practice what you preach and treat employees as family. dont put an hourly cap on your teams because you feel the need to make an additional 20 million annually.
Pros
The employee discount can be really good on certain items.
It's easy to transfer from store to store if need be.
Fellow employees are easy to get along with
Cons
Management can be difficult in regards to making purchases with your discount.
Mid-level managers are horrible.
They want you to sell too much junk at the cash register.
Management cares way too much about store numbers, often to the detriment of the customer.
Advice to Senior Management
People often come to BB knowing what they want. They don't want a credit card, magazine subscription, rewards card, or a service plan if they are buying a mouse and a cd for $30 total. The strategy of annoying customers into submission is failing.
Pros
Some of the pros of working at best buy include a benefits package, and "competivie salary." They tend to start Merchandising/warehouse employees off between $8.50 - $10/hr. Managers make substantially more, as do supervisors, so if you are looking to get promoted it can become a decent source of income. The environment is generally positive, and they are usually pretty flexible with scheduling.
Cons
Best Buy is suffering from the slow economy, similar to other electronics retailers, and so in some markets they have scaled back spending in some areas, including merchandising. This cut back may make it more difficult for some to perform their job at a level which would meet the requirements for getting promoted.
Advice to Senior Management
Come up with an effective game plan.
Pros
good pay, friendly co workers, good benefits, huge ability for advancement.
Cons
constant layoffs, and no compensation for good performance.
Advice to Senior Management
know how everything works, including the computer systems before you try to train other employees.
Pros
Employee Discount, Long Term Incentive, Short Term Incentive, Overall Pay, hours, flexible shift times are available, not too busy all the time
Cons
Unrealistic expectations, Beetings Lack of work life balance, managers are not developed into future leaders, managers are rewarded off of luck, budgets, or severe favoratism from District HR and the District Staff
Advice to Senior Management
Think long term in development, one month does not a bad manager make, there is something called a retail cycle, bad years often follow good years, compound growth was because of the housing growth and economy, lack of growth is from the economy, flat panels sales have flattened, what do you think will happen to sales? Wake up and stop firing people because that is all you know how to do.
Pros
Fast paced job where time goes by very quickly on the weekends. Good training programs and friendly staff. Employee discounts are good for certain items.
Cons
Pushed to sell like a commissioned employee without the the commission. Pushed extremely hard to sell extended warranty service plans, again without compensation for performance. Sales floor more often than not also had poor coverage. Several times there were 2 sales employees on the floor on a busy weekend. This led to several frustrated customers who were extremely dissatisfied. A measly hourly pay where performance has no effect on.
The computer sales floor also had very poor turnaround due to the extreme pushing of sales, several people had either quit or transferred out of that department during the time I was employed there.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't push your employees to sell like they are on commission without compensation.
