Pros
Friendly work environment, excellent opportunity to learn and grow.
Cons
Favoritism, difficulty advancing or moving laterally.
Advice to Senior Management
Please re asses the ways that you decide to promote workers.
Pros
Your coworkers are usually really awesome and help you whenever they can. The discount when I was there was pretty awesome (cost+%10) and I used it to gain a surplus of HDMI cables for all my electronics here at home. Management did a good job of acknowledging a job well done and even offered me the chance to stay on past seasonal due to my hard work. The hours weren't too bad and I was in school so whenever I had a test to study for they wouldn't make me stay too late.
Cons
It's retail so working with the public can be a hassle sometimes. Pay could have been better but it was alright for the time being.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember to encourage the employees as often as possible because the customers can be harsh. Also the dress code of ALL black or brown shoes is weak. Allow people to wear shoes that have some character and not just ugly crap.
Pros
Great networking, good coworkers, fun place to work.
Cons
Schedule changes too often for my liking
Pros
Employee Discounts were phenomenal, work environment was enjoyable if you enjoyed tech.
Cons
Hours were terrible, scheduling consistency was non-existent.
Pros
decent pay good company culture
Cons
overachievers not recognized/promoted based on performance, all about networking.
Advice to Senior Management
promote proven employees, take a more active approach to developing top talent.
Pros
Ability to get promoted and raises
Cons
Lots of time, odd hours but sometimes policy can be a bit demanding
Advice to Senior Management
Give employees more control over their process, don't force people to do things that don't actually help
Pros
Great people, fun enviornment. Makes you want to never leave. Get to see and learn about the newest technology.
Cons
The one and only con, its retail. Meaning, the hours you work is sufficient but the hours are also random. No fixed schedule here folks.
Advice to Senior Management
Great job keep it up.
Pros
Most of the hourly workers there are great and very nice when answering questions and are generally encouraging. You get to play around with some cool tech on the demos.
Cons
No one communicated with anyone in my store. If it wasn't asked/said in one of the comment boxes on the schedule system, it would be ignored and even then it was kind of 50/50.
Seems that they hired too many people. I never got scheduled above 4-6 hours a week past the training period despite multiple requests for more hours. Despite being there a few weeks I still had very little idea of my actual job due to never being there.
Communication was so bad there, that the store manager didn't even know I was fired until he called me about 2 weeks later asking if I was coming in to work.
Advice to Senior Management
More communication would definitely help. Actually listening when employees tell management that they are unsure or are having problems.
Pros
Although then compensation for associates in not good, it is decent for manager and above. The medical benefits offered are very good and inexpensive as well as by far they have the best employee discounts on product.
Cons
The is not much growth oppurtunity for minorities within the company, the epotimize the good ole boy system. The is no clear direction except for profitabilty at any cost. Leadership does not have an on going training in cultural sensitivity or traing on how to be a good leader outside of initial training. There probably should be some upper level education completion in order to hold a management position.
Advice to Senior Management
I would advise anyone who is seeking or currently residing in a management position to tread lightly and be careful. Management performance is generally determined by location within a city, therefore bonuses are determined the same way. Get all that you can up front because there is no room for financial growth once you find yourself in the Blue Box
Pros
Best Buy is very focused around their employees. Overall a very great place to learn the ropes and develop skills necessary to grow in the retail industry.
Cons
The only real negative I have is that in an auto-tech position you are easily forgotten about. This is due to being largely removed from the sales floor and management.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to be more actively involved with the day to day operations in the install bay, to more actively share in the loss and successes.
