I worked at Best Buy (more than an year)

    Pros

It's a fun, friendly environment. I always felt among friends with my co-workers and it made doing my job easier. Good hourly pay rate. Meetings were productive and informal.

    Cons

A lot of pressure is going to be put on you to meet sales goals, but they do not pay out commission. It's hard to get motivated to bust your butt and make these sales, when your co-workers shamming out and playing on their phones are going home with the same paycheck as you.

They tend to hire young, pretty females. If you're older, or not so easy on the eyes, I hope you're going for a management positon

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're going to have to find a way to both bring down your prices - probably through overhead costs if you want to remain in business.

Learn the value of commissions and bonuses if you want to motivate your sales force.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule- perfect for a student or transitional job. Management will work with your schedule.

Experience- The Bestbuy brand is well respected and what employees experience here will help them with any future jobs

    Cons

Poor pay- The pay is kept low because of the "Short Term Incentive" which is a department based monthly team bonus, that is paid out in accordance with hours worked in that month. It is also low and very difficult to attain due to high profit margin standards.

Non Commission based wage, but a commission based environment- Supervisor are the worst perpetrators of this, the company prides itself on non commission employees, but treat their employees as if they are commissioned. They will push an up sale even if its not beneficial to the consumers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember what its like on the sales floor and place attainable goals on your employees.

Former Employee - Work At Home Agent-Customer Service in Humble, TX

I worked at Best Buy part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Saved gas, no commute, paid training, Not much else to say as far as pros, Even if you are computer savy, you will still be confused on some of the policies and also how to navigate in 6 different systems, plus learning pages and pages of company issues. They use IE and Java which is not compatible so expect a lot of system issues.

    Cons

To be a work at home agent for Best Buy you have to buy an office phone with a mute button $45.00 headset $25.00. You also need a hardwired land line and it cost me $80.00 plus $20.00 a month just for a dial tone, high speed internet $60.00. Training is only 1 wk to learn 6 systems and it is not fun at all, our trainer was distraced most of the time and very scattered with the subjects. I started 3 wks ago and still no pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trainer should speak clearly and concisely and stay on one subject before going to another one. New employees need at least 2 weeks to learn everything before handling customer complaints and issues. Pay your employees even if you have to cut them a check.
