Pros
You get to work with people from all different backgrounds. People shopping at best buy are shopping for things they want, not need, so it's all fun
Cons
Like any other retail job, you have to put up with disrespectful customers.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to employees and promote the people who really deserve it, not thise who follow you from store to store or those who brown nose.
Pros
The experience looks good on resume. Good discounts, and the people that work there are fun people.I think they do a good job in giving young kids the chance to have a job and discover, and what they are good at. Also when working at Best Buy you learn a lot about team work. You interact with customers of all kinds and you become to have an understanding of how to treat customers and interact with them on all business levels. All in all Best Buy is a good place for short time while going to school type of job.
Cons
Low pay, Long hours, managers take the side of the customer and through you under the buss.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect your employees more and treat them as equals and not just as money generators.
Pros
great employee discount, high pay in the industry
Cons
long hours during holiday season
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Non Commissioned friendly environment. The discounts are pretty good.
Cons
No Commission, managers are aggressive for pushing warranties and services.
Advice to Senior Management
Work to get employee's the proper bonus for their hard work.
Pros
Discounts! Accessories are hugely discounted. There are sometimes hot girls that come through so its nice to chat them up for a while while actually trying to help them decide on a product.
Cons
Pushing things customers don't want, new internet services, accessories that aren't really needed, pushing warranties. Dealing with stupid customers that don't understand why there is no one to help them. I mean yelling at me doesn't help you, I mean... when I actually go behind the wall to get your product, do you really think I don't drop it a few times if you're mean to me. Payback on mean customers is satisfying at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Some of the sales people are dirty... even between stores, "walking" customers to other locations because they don't want the warranty.
Pros
Best Buy was an easy job for a broke college-student. If you like consumer goods, this is heaven. You discover the policies and atmosphere of the retail sales floor.
Cons
Best Buy management tended to be on the slower and arrogant side at this location. The GM in particular was a real piece of work. I wouldn't mind being his boss now.
Also, commission may be helpful to get the lazy employees to learn more about the products they sell.
Advice to Senior Management
Train and motivate employers to excel above the competition, or end up like your defunct competitor.
Pros
good discounts and decent pay for a first or second job during high school or just out of high school. I heard if your in the computer department or car audio the pay is a lot better. I personally wished I would've went with the computer department. I did however really enjoy some of the people I worked side by side with and the breakroom had a BIG TV and a PS2. However some employees were able to use it periodically throughout the day(sometimes an hr or 2) while others like myself were restricted to a half hour during break. I didn't really understand why. think it depended on your supervisor.
Cons
I wouldn't make a career out of it. Had some co-workers come on in the same training class as I did that were managers at other retail locations. once they got promoted they started to act like they were to good to interact with you as they did before. Yes there is a "supervisor" type leadership they have to start having but these ones took the "power" to their head. Every place and experience will be different though.
Advice to Senior Management
They replaced my awesome supervisor with one who just stood there ALL day and watched us work. Lead by example!
Pros
Pay is above average, its perfect for a high school or college job
Cons
not enough opportunites to move up in a store, if you are located in a low revenue store its very difficult to move up plus management doesn't inform you of what postions that are available.
Advice to Senior Management
do a better job of knowing your team
Pros
Mostly great co-workers, great discount, and keeping busy all the time to make the time pass quickly.
Cons
If you don't suck up to management, don't expect to keep your job very long. Also, holidays are the name of the game, so expect to have very abbreviated family functions or miss them entirely.
Advice to Senior Management
You know those Viewpoint surveys that your employees take twice per year? Read them and ADDRESS THEIR CONCERNS. Most of the complaints ARE NOT fiction, but very real gripes.
Pros
Fair compensation compared to other jobs. Best Buy is also a company that is not going anywhere soon. It is hard for me to give any better explanation for my work at Best Buy, because I was a cashier. There is room for advancement in the company, but you need to start with a degree in order to go places.
Cons
Retail sales are not the most exciting positions. The increase in hours during the holiday's, when you wish you had time off, is never exciting. But this is the same with any retail company.
Advice to Senior Management
Always communicate a job well done to the employees, no matter how low they are on the totem pole.
