The products, people and workplace environment.

Advice to Senior Management
Lets be more innovating than what we are doing know.

Cons
they take advantage of customers and only care about profits.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect your employees
Pros
My store has recently replaced four managers with at least two more on the chopping block. The reason for such a big change is because all of the employees were finally sick of the incompetence and the company actually responded. This needed to happen months ago but it's a good thing it finally did.
If you work hard and make sure your leadership knows you do, you'll get the pay, time and benefits you want. You can't just expect 40+ hours and paid time off your second week, it takes time to prove yourself.
You get a lot of free stuff too if you know where to look. That's a huge help when you're trying to build your own computer, learn about something new or just be a nerd.
Cons
Management gives whinny employees too much room. Having babies only sell whenever they feel like it only hurts the store and company.
Important information doesn't get down to sales employees in time a lot of the times. None of them want to utilize the information outlets the company provides though, so it isn't all leadership/company fault.
Advice to Senior Management
If more leadership actually listened to our CEO the company would be better off. My GM told me his first week It wasn't my supervisors job to coach/train or listen to me. It wasn't my supervisors job to give me direction or help me with my job. Right after that was a meeting which showed a video of Brian Dunn saying the exact opposite.
Pros
Great bonus structure at my store, lots of downtime in the appliances department, lots of company sponsored fun events, lots of great people to work with, better pay than most similar retail jobs.
Cons
Lack of upward potential, employee discount on core items (tvs, laptops, ipods) is WEAK.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus more heavily on making sure that the employees are motivated to sell. Incentives, incentives, incentives!
Pros
discounts, atmosphere, always busy can be fun at times to work, big large great choice of products with different accessoriies to sell
Cons
money is very low, no chance for a raise or a promotion, bad work schedule, always work nights and weekends, hard to get time off
Advice to Senior Management
listen to all employees, stop managing by fear with the threat of being fired on a daily basis, give credit where credit is due.
Pros
The Pay and employee discounts
Cons
Incompetent upper management; high stress; lack of job security

Pros
Just got hired, feels like I have been working there a long time. The managers and associates are very spirited.
Cons
Not enough hours, I just got hired and there were about 40 other people that were hired with me. Also, the pay isn't the greatest.
Advice to Senior Management
Very good job so far. Maybe we can do without hiring quite so many people at one time. Fun workplace.
Pros
In store Discounts, friendly co workers, immediate management considerate and understanding of employees.
Cons
Late hours, sparatic hours, low wages, tiresome work, no incentive to work harder. Upper management attempts to motivate with no real motivating tool. No bonuses or rewards for working hard are ever given. Promotion depends almost entirely on selling subscriptions to magazines that nobody ever really wants.
Advice to Senior Management
Give employees incentive for working harder
Pros
when working as a full-time employee there are good benefits. If you are attending school, you can get money back for every grade C and above to compensate for your school expenses for that semester. Overall it's a great learning experience with customer service and being able to work with others in the environment. The company also does provide the ability to advance in their career field quickly. There is a salary increase after 3 months of working within the company, and another one after a year of working with the company. The discounts on accessories for your electronics is great. Although it is ideal to sale the quota trying to be filled, there is not as much pressure or stress to have to constantly harass customers into sales since there is no commission. It is easier to approach a customer as a friend and genuinely fit the electronic of their need to fill their everyday lifestyle.
Cons
some shifts can end extremely late or begin extremely early depending on your job position. Best Buy employees tend to get written up a lot and can easily get fired if too many write ups pile up for one employee. Generally write-ups are issued with meaningful purpose but there have been instances where different small unintentional mistakes and employee makes can result in penalty.
Advice to Senior Management
find a way to attend to customers as soon as possible when they have questions or concerns in the work place
Pros
It's a great job to have when you're in college. I worked in the media department and enjoyed getting to sell brand new cd's and dvd's.
Cons
The management is always changing. I worked at a few different Best Buy locations and we always had new managers coming in and out. Also, closing the store can be pretty frustrating, especially if you need to head back home to study or something. Managers can keep employees in the store as late as they want-sometimes I would wait an hour or so before the closing manager would come by to check how clean my department was.
Advice to Senior Management
Raises-even small ones-are great motivation to keep workers happy and interested in their job.
