Pros
Looks good on the resume. Great experience if you're fresh out of college. Movement is generally encouraged. Flexible work schedule.
Cons
Pay is way low compared to other companies of similar size. Employees can get lost in the shuffle. Layoffs almost every other year.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay for experienced professionals. BBY is wasting it's time training fresh college grads who then leave when they realize pay is better elsewhere.
Pros
Corporate discounts on products
Ability to experiment with new concepts (using local stores as a "live" laboratory)
Cons
Regionalism / Provincialism
Organizational and strategic changes are long and laborious
Pros
ROWE - if allowed by boss
Cons
inconsistent management of employees, poor leadership from CEO, lack of vision
Advice to Senior Management
Think of where things are headed and make a move. Don't acquire failed companies, we don't turn them around. Get a search engine for bestbuy.com
Pros
*Strengths-based organization makes it easy to use talent, gifts and skills
*Create-your-own-destiny kind of attitude
*Collaborative open culture
*Lots of internal movement and promotion
*Down to earth people (for the most part)
*Good amenities and benefits
*ROWE (work life balance, work from home options)
Cons
*Somewhat disorganized corporate culture (lots of change, fast paced, can be a good thing too)
*Cold climate (but cool winter sports, social events and clubs in Twin Cities area)
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to build culture of hard work, honesty, openness and inclusion.
Pros
The best reason to work at Best Buy is definitely the Discount
also there are Nice employees,Clean Offices, and Advancement opportunities
Cons
Best Buy is Such a big company that there is alot of misinformation and alot of pissed off customers
too many 3rd party contractors
Such a big company you dont have a voice
Advice to Senior Management
Advice I would give to the management is to listen more to the people on the front line and get company wide information out as quickly as possible
Pros
Discount, advancement, networking, steppingstone to better things.
Cons
Low pay, constant flux of policies and strategies.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop switching selling strategies as much, pay your employees better and treat them with trust and respect. They will stay.
Pros
The supervisors and upper management were very personal and understanding when it came to working together as fellow employees as well as them overseeing you as their employee.
Cons
Working in small cubicles are not meant for everyone. It was difficult to concentrate on the tasks at hand while trying to not focus on the variety of noises and disruptions around.
Advice to Senior Management
I would sugges that this company not outsourced their work to different countries and to make sure that they employed Americans in America.
Pros
Better pay than most retail jobs, good benefits package for full-time employees, great discount on both products and services, if you are on a manager's good side it can be fun
Cons
Very little training, leadership quality of managers varies greatly, limited recognition, not as many options for career advancement as there used to be, double standards for the people that managers like the most
Advice to Senior Management
Managers have ridiculously high expectations for hourly employees yet most managers (at least at the ones at my location) were not able to explain how to achieve them or why they were important. Training and development is next to non-existent (once again, this may be limited to my location). More often than not, I was more informed on company policies than my sales managers were. There was very little consistency on how various policies were enforced. If you are on a manager's good side, you can get away with the same offenses that other employees are documented/written up for. Communication is troubled to say the least, often times a manager will say one thing only to contradict themselves a few moments later.
Pros
The Best Buy corporate campus is what is referred to as a "Results Only Work Environment". What this means is that you are rated solely on the results of your work and not how many hours you work or where you are working from. This allows me to be extremely flexible in the schedule that I keep. I am allowed to work from home or the office and do not have to punch a time clock. If I choose to work in the office on a given day, there are plenty of amenities to make for an easy day. We have a U.S. Bank location, fitness center, full service cafeteria, Caribou Coffee shop, child care, vehicle maintenance and cleaning service, dry cleaning and the Department of Motor Vehicles even comes down every Tuesday to take vehicle registration and license renewals for employees. We are also a very fast paced company, with many new opportunities that pop up every day. There is not a lot of red tape either when it comes to moving around within the company, so you aren't stuck following stale career paths and taking jobs you don't want in order to get to your ideal career. Overall, Best Buy is by far the best company I have ever worked for!
Cons
I don't consider this a "con" personally, but some people might not like how fluid things are in such a large company. By this, I mean that structure and departments can change a lot given how our business changes. This keep it interesting to me, but some may be overwhelmed.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you are doing!
Pros
- Fun staff
- Flexible hours
- Leadership development
Cons
- low pay
- sales job with no compensation
- difficult to get full time/ promotion unless been there for AT LEAST 1 year.
