Pros
fun place to play, word, and meet people.
Cons
However, if you are part-time, your hours could be completely ridiculous. Sometimes only 8-10 hours a week!
Advice to Senior Management
Give employees more realistic hours!
Pros
its a fun work environment, have the potential to meet great people by customer interaction,
Cons
too many availability restrictions, the pay is terrible for the amount of sales goals that they hold you accountable for,
Advice to Senior Management
you should value your employees for their performance, not the personal relationship they have with you.
Pros
Benefits (most available after you become a full time employee), decent starting pay rate, requires good availability but understanding when it comes to have college classes
Cons
Managers always pushing to increase sales, while services offered by best buy aren't so great and are overpriced, but you still must sell it even if you would never buy it. Best buy is moving into more of a selling culture, offering bigger bonus to management and leadership positions, and giving hours to hourly employees based on sales performance.
Advice to Senior Management
All the pressure given sales floor employees to increase sales is creating a culture of bad salesman, where many times I have seen employees lying or omitting the thurth in order in increase the sale ammount or attach accessories not needed for the customer. Management acknowledge this practice but pretend not to.
Pros
I ahve been here a month and the energy and excitement are contagious. I really enjoy the oppurtunity to learn other departments. Cool, very cool......
Cons
I have not found too many yet. I hope that they offer some mo,re formal training for sales techniques and tactics in the future.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer more time for sales training to associates who need it. I think that this will continue to differentiate us from the others. Cool, very cool.
Pros
- Discounts
- Environment
- Buffed Resume
- Meeting lots of new people
Cons
- No advancement
- Unfair Promotions
- Unfair allocation of Hours
- Management would rather give money away, then to help save and listen to employees
- Talked down in front of customers
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employes. We are not paid to make customers angry. We are the front lines. We sell, we listen to frustration, and we make our decisions based off information you give us. Talking down to us in front of customers making it seem like we don't know what we are talking about is something that shouldn't be done. The day your customers think we don't know what we are talking about, and go straight to management for product advice, is the day your sales go down, because you don't know anything about the services.
Pros
The discount is the best perk with working at Best Buy. You get everything at 5% above cost. If you like electronics and gadgets its a fun place to work.
Cons
Lot of politics
Hard to advance even with a degree
Management can hold good employees back if they feel threatened.
Managers make rumors about employees to make themselves appear to be more important.
Advice to Senior Management
Work more with employees that are looking to advance within the company.
Get rid of managers that are condesending and incompitent.
Pros
Interaction with employees. Employee Discounts. Travel for events or training.Support to lead your business. Workforce driven environment.
Cons
Holiday hours and management scheduling.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to empower employees.
Pros
Real World Experience. Part TIme While achieving a Bachelors degree.
Cons
NONE. Retail is retail, And you must know to sell.
Advice to Senior Management
Better Communication
Pros
Best Buy offers favorable pay, a generous employee discount, and excellent network opportunities. Generally, the opportunities for growth were numerous.
Cons
Best Buy makes it hard to balance professional and personal life, especially during the holidays.
Advice to Senior Management
Unfortunately, labor cuts have taken away from the ability to drive sales (which is directly related to performance). Especially in this economy, where major competitors are closing and small market competitors are entering markets, it presents a challenge to capture those customers.
Pros
Best Buy is a high energy environment that makes it fun to work at. Having the opporunity to make a difference in the lives of your employees makes it rewarding. The benefits, including the discount, are phenomenal. The leadership within the company is highly intelligent, willing to take risks, and are always ahead of the curve.
Cons
Work-life balance is non-existant as a manager at Best Buy. You are expected to work long hours, feel gulity for taking vacations, and are never truly able to unplug. The highly competitive nature of the company can lead to infighting between stores, sometimes putting the financial scorecard over the needs of the customer.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to stay ahead of the curve, but take care of the store leaders who deliver results!
