Former Employee – worked at Best Buy full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Best retail experience, they have a decent personality test before hiring, so you work with OK people .
Cons – Low pay for knowledge expected to retain, and sales strategy you are supposed to execute.
Advice to Senior Management – A store is only as good as the attitude of its managers.

Former Employee – worked at Best Buy full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – There has been a push to try and innovate ... however... they cant seem to keep a good idea running without completely mucking up the original concept and what it was ment to do. Take their MCSA (Previously Sales Operators) their position was mainly to support the over the phone customer. it has now merged with .com pickup. you'd think think this would be great. however they still keep the same amount of employees (usually 1. rarely 2) per shift. the MCSA Position has had so many responsibilities piled on them as a result of people thinking that we do nothing but sit and answer phones.
and dont get me started with the poor customer service position being merged with geek squad....
the other pros? if you have a manager that is not all about their "inner circle" the place can be a pleasant place to work. it has a nice discount for the most part. but after working 8 years and seeing best buy go from treating their employees like gold to passing the employees to the side in order to boost sales... i'd say this place is not worth working for anymore... its better than walmart thou..
Cons – Inner Circle Antics depending on store, Cant keep an idea rolling and support it for more than a few months (Gaming Drive to compete with Gamestop, Sales Operators, CA's), Almost 0 recognition for good things you do... but the moment you mess up even a little you better be prepared for writeups (almost feels like a call center sometimes -- bad performance? writeup...)
Advice to Senior Management – Try to get out of the inner circle thing... even thou you may not like an employees attitude it does not mean they are a bad employee... there are a few employees with a bad attitude about the company who try their hardest and do REALLY well and NEVER get recognition for what they do.

Current Employee – been working at Best Buy full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – -great bonus structure for leadership
-benefits are solid.
-team environment
-great employees discount and accommodations
Cons – -50 hour work week during the main part of the year, 60 hours plus during the holidays.
-Distract staff very little help when you need it
-Unsure future outlook, though new CEO seems to have a vision.
-Last restructure took months to complete and left a lot of uncertainty.
-Not enough time given to complete job responsibilities.
-horrible work/life balance. Schedule can change at the drop of a last minute district visit. Nearly impossible to use benefit time.
Advice to Senior Management – There is no way for management to communicate the gaps of the district staff without exposing who you are (and giving honest constructive criticism wouldn't be good for your career). No one cares about the experience of managers.

Former Employee – worked at Best Buy full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Benefits were good for full-time employees.
Cons – Favoritism is very prevalent. The right people with good experience, education, and skills rarely advance with this company.
Advice to Senior Management – Promote employees with actual skills, education, and experience.

Former Employee – worked at Best Buy part-time for more than a year
Pros – Fellow employees, flexible schedule, location
Cons – Bad pay, unreachable bonuses, corporate stupidity, favoritism for promotions
Advice to Senior Management – You want professional sales people then pay professional wages! You want employees to actually care about shrink and numbers then pay them enough to actually live on!

Former Employee – worked at Best Buy full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – The employees at BBY are all committed to doing great work, are incredibly smart, talented, and truly fun to be around. I've made so many friends there. Historically, there has been an entrepreneurial spirit that made work exciting - you never knew where the next great idea was going to come from and everyone was working hard to come up with it.
Cons – Currently, BBY is in a turnaround and the new leadership evidently believes hard work and fun cannot co-exist. Too many talented employees leaving and threats of cuts are always present creating a less than inspiring work place.
Advice to Senior Management – Hard work and fun can coexist in the workplace; managing with threats of cuts does not create an environment where employees want to do their best; investing in only short term opportunities is going to create long term problems.

Current Employee – been working at Best Buy full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The Discount, and the pay. Those are pretty much the only positives about this company anymore.
Cons – No work / life balance. To move up you have to be a part of the good ole boys club. Senior Management changes their mind about things every month; there's always a different goal.
Advice to Senior Management – The ship is already sinking, get out your life jackets.

Pros – Co-workers generally good people.
Will teach you how to sell.
Most interactions with customers you help them get the right PC and that part is fun.
Cons – Push hard for credit card sales.
Need a high attach rate of accessories.
Advice to Senior Management – Some managers need to go, don't just shuffle them around the store.

Current Employee – been working at Best Buy full-time for less than a year
Pros – -Constant Trainings
-Great STI Bonuses
-Can work with days I request off
-Great Leadership
-Good Benefits once Full Time
Cons – -Some Managers push nubers versus customer experience
-Gossip, which is in every work place
-Constant battle to move up
Advice to Senior Management – Focus more on the customer experience, and not the numbers! If we are giving them the best experience, then it will reflect in numbers!
