    Pros

Challenging environment that allows to implement change by projects Top technology, money was never a problem on big projects Tons of smart and committed people Salary and benefits were very good

    Cons

Clear communication from the top is dreadful or non-existent. You are expected to read minds .Project managers are not valued, mainly because the strategy is JFDI EXCO and Sponsors are not used to provide business justification in business value terms for any project. If a big fish wants a project, he will get it (hence the point of money never being an issue) Values had changed 3 times while I worked there.

    Advice to Management

Prioritise and communicate are your biggest failures, you need a PMO urgently, stop dismissing it. The company, per se, is amazing and will continue generating money (which is why no one seem to care enough to do better)

    Pros

+ Hard working, clever people. + Friendly environment, everyone is always happy to help! + You won't get bored, as there are so many things to do. However, the environment is quite relaxed, and there is no need to work over-hours. + Interesting challenges for the future. + Stack of technologies is interesting and getting bigger! + You are free to use what OS you want to work with: MacOS, Linux, Windows... + TDD and Agile methodologies. + Developers are involved in full development cycle: design, implementation, integration testing, QA testing, release and maintenance. + Modern offices with green spaces and river views. + Subsidised canteen in the building.

    Cons

+ Some parts of the code are relatively old and hard to maintain/understand and they lack proper testing. However, these bits are being re-implemented with some state of the art frameworks and technologies. + The beginnings can be a bit hard for devs, as they don't have much documentation to read. You will learn while coding!

    Pros

Beautiful location in West London, working with incredibly talented people on an exceptional product, delivering at pace, all in a relaxed sporting environment.

    Cons

Big sporting events can get quite stressful but they do get shown on the big screens in the office with beer and pizza provided

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing

    Pros

The pay and benefits are excellent, the vast majority of people here are great to work with, the business is making huge amounts of money and is growing well, the Hammersmith office is a nice place to work.

    Cons

There is a deeply engrained culture of never planning ahead and leaving everything to the last minute, everything is always rushed and this causes high stress and a low quality of work across the business. Management do not act on advice given (repeatedly) to them and there is no accountability. The staff attrition rate in Betfair is breathtaking, the vast majority of those I have worked with haven't lasted longer than 18 months. HR used to review this once a year, they have now had to step this up to four times a year because of the sheer amount of people leaving, this should speak volumes to anyone considering becoming an employee.

    Advice to Management

Provide strong leadership and a real strategy for planning projects. Trust your staff and do not overrule their advice for petty political reasons.

    Pros

I've worked in a lot of companies and Betfair is the best company that I've ever worked in. My team and colleagues in general are smart, enthusiastic and good friends, they're not simply just (colleagues). We have a great bond and that's why it pays dividends. My workload can be hectic but that's all a part of working for a fast-paced company. The pay is in-line with the industry (if not slightly better) and the benefits package is better than most companies that I've worked in and know about. The senior management team are experienced and are driving the company in the right direction. There's lots of opportunities to learn and develop.

    Cons

In my first few months, there was a major restructure and it took a while for everything to settle but other than that, there's none. Restructures happen in any large organisation.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

    Pros

In a word: Stability. It's a solid business and provides a stable environment, even in times of economic turbulence. Salaries are good, as are benefits.

    Cons

Politics are terrible. Management is clueless, selfish and decisions are often made to get the next step up the ladder with little regard for long or even mid term consequences. Siloing and micromanaging are severe and detrimental, accountability is very poor.

    Advice to Management

Developing a product takes time and it must be seen as an investment. Stop seeing each day of development as lost revenue and focus on building the product.

    Pros

Fast paced, some smart people, nice offices with good benefits. Market leading for the gaming industry.

    Cons

Not great team ethos in some areas of the business. A lot of political climbing not aided by huge staff turnover. A lot of people moved into the wrong roles without much conversation. A lot of meetings/conversations without much work getting done.

    Advice to Management

Try to create an environment that is stable, constant reorganisation leads to confusion more than opportunity. A lot of square pegs in round holes
