I have been working at Betfair full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I've worked in a lot of companies and Betfair is the best company that I've ever worked in. My team and colleagues in general are smart, enthusiastic and good friends, they're not simply just (colleagues). We have a great bond and that's why it pays dividends. My workload can be hectic but that's all a part of working for a fast-paced company. The pay is in-line with the industry (if not slightly better) and the benefits package is better than most companies that I've worked in and know about. The senior management team are experienced and are driving the company in the right direction. There's lots of opportunities to learn and develop.

    Cons

In my first few months, there was a major restructure and it took a while for everything to settle but other than that, there's none. Restructures happen in any large organisation.

    I worked at Betfair full-time

    Pros

In a word: Stability. It's a solid business and provides a stable environment, even in times of economic turbulence. Salaries are good, as are benefits.

    Cons

Politics are terrible. Management is clueless, selfish and decisions are often made to get the next step up the ladder with little regard for long or even mid term consequences. Siloing and micromanaging are severe and detrimental, accountability is very poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Developing a product takes time and it must be seen as an investment. Stop seeing each day of development as lost revenue and focus on building the product.

I worked at Betfair full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced, some smart people, nice offices with good benefits. Market leading for the gaming industry.

    Cons

Not great team ethos in some areas of the business. A lot of political climbing not aided by huge staff turnover. A lot of people moved into the wrong roles without much conversation. A lot of meetings/conversations without much work getting done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to create an environment that is stable, constant reorganisation leads to confusion more than opportunity. A lot of square pegs in round holes

I worked at Betfair full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There were good benefits and salary.

    Cons

WAAAAAAAY too many stakeholders! The head of our team had absolutely no clue as to how keep them from micromanaging the creative team. The job we were all hired to do--creative effective advertising for betting events--was so micromanaged that whatever the stakeholder wanted in the ads, went in...no matter how irrelevant, cluttered, or useless it made the ads.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You hired the right people...let them do their jobs.

    I worked at Betfair full-time

    Pros

Some interesting technology and some very bright minds.

    Cons

Lacks transparency and people are moved around too much without clarity on roles and responsibilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend time in getting management and staff more engaged, communicate goals and changes better, make the workplace more friendly where relationships can happen more easily.

I have been working at Betfair full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Without a doubt the technical challenge is the most alluring part of working at Betfair. Then you meet the great people who all share the thirst to take on the challenges and deliver. There is no blame culture, everyone is massively supportive, the business is growing. It's great fun.

    Cons

It's a big business and publicly owned. With this comes the need to assess multiple providers for any solution and undertake due diligence. Yes, it slows things down when you want to progress at 100mph but it is needed and I've seen far worse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep encouraging the technical innovation and thirst to find solutions. Promote the Betfair tech brand. The engineering challenges are world class and you have a world class team dealing with it.
