Former Employee - Assistant Sales Manager in Milton Keynes, England (UK)

I worked at Betfred full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I loved my co-workers and my customers

    Cons

PAY! I was an assistant manager earning £7 an hour. for all that responsibility that is shocking. Managers dont seem to care about their staff. we do all the favours for our managers i.e. work in other shops miles away from our base shop and work on our days off but then get nothing back in return.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the pay as betfred pays the worst in the industry. Have better staff incentives rather than "roulette competition, shop with the most entries in the region will receive a £25 asda voucher" there are 300 shops in the region. we have a 299/1 chance to win £25 split 4-5 ways, not great motivation there.

    I worked at Betfred

    Pros

    I'm leaving so that's good

    Cons

An arrogant ruthless attitude towards the very people lining their pockets. Breathtakingly dreadful in every way. I've resigned after years of service and the response I got was ..no response not an acknowledgement or a word about it! How they can still carry on is beyond me

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's the culture. They all need to resign and better still dear old Fred needs to reflect a bit about humans before money after all you can't take it with you

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Warrington, North West England, England (UK)

I worked at Betfred full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Nice offices and modern equipment

    Cons

No staff benefits at all, no sick pay, no sense of staff feeling valued at all. Very unstable - they dismiss people with no warning and no communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sort yourselves out - the way you treat your staff is appalling and verging on illegal. Start valuing your staff and treating them like human beings instead of commodities to be cast aside when it suits you. You say you have that 'northern warmth' - start displaying it to your staff as well as your customers before its too late!

Current Employee - Not Sure Now But Was Called Shop Manager

I have been working at Betfred full-time

    Pros

If you like living on the breadline then work for this company

    Cons

Working on a low salary, the abuse, threats and constant lack of support

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing I can say, as Management do not listen, whatever we say they will dismiss it, even if I idea's are good, they will be ignored, so I will continue to let the company go down on the spiral route they are taking

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Employee - Software Developer in Wigan, England (UK)

I worked at Betfred full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

High profile work on the company website.

    Cons

No HR department so payroll / benefits / work issues are largely ignored. Was hired without any plans as to what I'd be working on (eventually used my initiative and put myself on a project). Those close to Fred appeared to be treated more favourably than those more distant but doing a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to provide packages inline with competitors. HR department is a must. Also some plan for personal growth needs to be put in place.

I have been working at Betfred full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Staff some customers, working indoors.

    Cons

Late nights nothing over the counter only machines, being told to upsell where a good manager does that without targets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let managers manage without feeling under pressure all the time.

I have been working at Betfred as an intern (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Meeting new people who can become friends

    Cons

    Single manning.
    Disgustingly poor wages,
Verbal abuse and demeaning behaviour from senior management.
Bullying, belittling and intimidation are rife.
Very long hours, constantly forced to work overtime
    Closed culture for promotion, nepotism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff at retail level!
Change the bullying culture from senior managers who actively do their best to drive out hard working and diligent employees!
Pay a living wage, not a laughable one!
    Promote on talent, not desperation!
Work to eliminate problems, do not hide and deny them!

I worked at Betfred part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The only pro was i lived near the location and it was easy to get to.

    Cons

They expect you to learn so much in 4 weeks and then sack you if you if you dont fit the grade. They had me sign a contract and then a day later got rid of me under not being compatible for the job. They didnt take into consideration that i only had 2 weeks training rather than 4 as the manager was on leave. The woman i worked with was also rude and all other staff were very much all about themselves. I was practically ignored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give people longer to train as everyone is different.
