I have been working at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The staff delivering treatment really care and give beyond the call of duty. They always do their best, although stretched to the limit

    Cons

Staff are over-worked, most areas are under-staffed and they are not supported by management. Morale is at an all time low and the Health Board are dis-investing in specialist staff, down banding staff and placing them of pay protection / pay freeze for up to 10 years. Staff are leaving in their droves. Highly specialised staff are being asked not to use their excellent skills as the Trust can't afford to pay them their correct banding.
Previously excellent services are suffering because of this dis-investment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decrease the management tiers and invest in putting more clinical staff where it counts, adhere to AFC bandings and pay the staff what they deserve, thus maintaining the excellent services available to patients
If managers cared about patients as much as the clinical staff do they would agree that things need to change
Put patients first instead of finances and start looking at the NHS as a whole instead of little pockets. Patients deserve this and so do the hard working and dedicated staff

I worked at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

None, except that it is a new building

    Cons

The management of the nurses leaves a lot to be desired. Great deal of chit chat about private matters that as a patient I did not want to hear. Nurses were saying some serious stuff about their manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get into this unit and clean up.

I worked at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

NHS pay is ok and pension is great. Enjoyed my time at Maelor prior to 2008.

    Cons

Very poor service as a patient. At times worried about my health with MRSA and vomitting bug. Poor practice by health care workers. Battle has been lost in the cleaning of wards. Common to see blood and vomit splatter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be vigilant on staff practice of hand washing.
