I worked at Bibb County School District

    Pros

    Very progressive, open to change

    Cons

Too much extra work, change in leadership too often

    Advice to Management

As a former teacher, administration should realize the importance of giving elementary teachers daily breaks. Those classroom teachers sometimes work 8 hours without a 15 minute break.

    Pros

Health and retirement benefits are good, but the pay is not worth the work. Teachers do not get paid enough for what they have to do in this district.

    Cons

Students are naturally disrespectful (sometimes this can be handled in class, other times you need support); no support from parents, faculty, administration, or district; low pay; no advancement; same routine; ton of paperwork; blamed for everything by everyone; no freedom; forced to do things that you don't agree with; lots of pressure; extremely stressful; have to take work home; etc, etc, etc...

    Advice to Management

Treat your teachers for what they are: God-sent saviors!!!

    Pros

Hard working professionals work toward the success of our students. Opportunities to collaborate with peers. Good benefits.

    Cons

Salaries have been frozen for 7 years. Furloughs for 3. Sometimes who you know trumps what you know when looking for advancing your career.

    Advice to Management

Keep an open mind, open to change. Remember why you are there, and put people in place based on ability rather than friendship.

    Pros

Summer off is nice and about 10% of the kids are great to work with.

    Cons

unprepared students are constantly promoted yet they work far less than the teachers

    Advice to Management

No promotion without a passing grade(without a curve) on a common test for county.

    Pros

    Great benefits and wonderful co-workers.

    Cons

Teaching children is always a tough job, and teachers are not compensated appropriately for the amount of work they do.

    Advice to Management

Be kind to your teachers, do not cut salaries or benefits-- or you may unexpectedly find yourself in a hiring mode!
